Blasphemy! Without a shadow of a doubt, TNG is one of the greatest sci-fi shows ever made.Xeogred wrote:My friends weren't kidding, so TNG's first (few?) seasons are kind of... awful? Haha, this is definitely cheese to the max with the goofiest plot lines so far.
So what have you guys been watching lately?

Everyone knows the show doesn't get really good until a couple of seasons in when Riker grows his beard.BurningDoom wrote:Blasphemy! Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
My friends still love it, they just really talk up the later seasons. I liked all of what I saw watching it on TV back in the day along with DS9. But yeah these first handful of episodes have been a lot weirder than I ever remembered the show being, haha.
I guess Patrick Stewart was 47 from the start here? Wow, lol. Love how I just... can't picture him any other way, he never changed. Guess his age is finally catching up to him more recently, but he looks to be in pretty top notch shape for 72.
DS9 on the other hand seems pretty awesome from the get go. TNG definitely has a bit of a cooler vibe though.

I agree that TNG gets better as it goes, but I wouldn't say the first seasons are "awful".
Somehow I talked Cara into watching it, and has become a bigger fan than I am. She's constantly looking for Star Trek and TNG memorabilia at Goodwill/Flea Markets.
(As I was typing this, I remembered it was because I had her watch Firefly, and she loved it. I got beat the hell up for forcing her to watch Serenity though...)

Why? Is Serenity a bad finale? I have the Firefly/Serenity dvds but haven't found the time for it yet.jinx wrote:I got beat the hell up for forcing her to watch Serenity though...

Nono! Serenity was absolutely fantastic.Retrodude wrote:Why? Is Serenity a bad finale? I have the Firefly/Serenity dvds but haven't found the time for it yet.
It's what happens in the movie that made her punch me.
No spoilers from me though. You should watch the series in order, and then watch the movie.

Gotta say I can't wait to see the TNG BD releases, sounds like they put a lot of work into the remastering and restored some cut content throughout. I'm watching some HD stream on Amazon and it already looks top notch. This show had a great budget and has aged really well for 1987.

Indeed. Serenity was by far the best part of the entire series.jinx wrote:Nono! Serenity was absolutely fantastic.Retrodude wrote:Why? Is Serenity a bad finale? I have the Firefly/Serenity dvds but haven't found the time for it yet.

What? No, the best part of the whole series was the one about Jayne being the Hero of Canton.BurningDoom wrote:Indeed. Serenity was by far the best part of the entire series.jinx wrote:Nono! Wrong, clearly the best episode was the one with Christina Hendricks'.Ack wrote:What? No, the best part of the whole series was the one about Jayne being the Hero of Canton.BurningDoom wrote:Indeed. Serenity was by far the best part of the entire series.
