Problem with Saturn RAM cart?

Post by thekolo »

I recently bought a RAM cart and a saturn modchip from racketboy. I installed the modchip and it worked perfectly! I then tried playing Street Fighter Zero 3. So I set the cart, check it's in 4MB mode and start the game. The title screen's graphics are all garbled up. If I get to the character select screen I get a whole screen full of garbage graphics. I tried other capcom fighters, like Xmen vs SF and Marvel SH vs SF. Xmen won't let me go beyond the title screen and MSH vs SF won't go past the copyright screen.

I've tried different sources for the cd images, tried verifying the images for errors, cleaned the edges of the cart, but I still get the same errors. I think the problem might be with the RAM cart, but other games work perfectly. I tried Waku Waku 7 and it worked great. Has anyone had this problem or know a solution?

I was thinking it might be bad until you said some games worked fine.
Do you get stuck on a message that is all Japanese except for the characters "4MB"?

No, I can start the game fine. I tried playing Waku Waku without the RAM cart and I got that message in japanese, then tried with the cart and played fine. I'm going to try a couple more games that require the cart, it seems to be a problem just with capcom games? I'll test some more games and post my findings.

Well, I've tried different games that need the 4MB cart and I get the same kind of errors. Is it possible to exchange the RAM cart?

Just to make sure, you are flipping the switch on the front, right?

Yes. The game recognizes the 4MB cart without a problem. If I try switching it to 1MB mode, I get the "please insert 4MB RAM cart" message.

Ok -- so it recognizes it, but it's just messed up when playing?

Anyway, email me and we'll work out an exchange
