What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

I wasn't aware you could do this actually. Guessing it's just like a daily playlist that increments the episodes each time it loops or is run?

I've been meaning to set up an XMBC box for a long time, I might have to do it at least for the cartoons and anime I own.

It's not as easy as it sounds, and is still giving me some weird glitches. You basically have to set-up a "smart playlist" with a LOT of rules. This keeps shows from running twice in a row, allowing some shows to be random, while others need to run in order, etc.

Most of the time, we leave it on my daughter's playlist. It consists of shows that don't really need to play in a specific order, and is half educational shows and half 90's Cartoon Network/Nick cartoons. I've set-up a few scripts that were supposed to auto-manage the shows and times/days they played, but I'm forced to used an old Mac mini at the moment. I plan on doing a better set-up once I build the new media center box.

Well that sounds complicated, but there's probably a bit of fun in actually getting it all to work. I'm sure I could handle it, but I wouldn't even bother messing with this until later anyway.

Smile: 45 degrees and cloudy. Perfect day for yard work before the heatwave hits.

Frown: Three marked and two unmarked police cruisers were parked about four houses down from mine, at around 6:30am. I hope there wasn't a break-in, but if so I may have to keep a bang bang in my bedside table again.

Sorta bummed as now my kids will have to go to School on Monday the 17th of June. That is just way too deep into summer.

My kids' last day is Monday, June 24th. Like your kids, they put 3 snow days in the calendar and ended up using 6.

What school vacations do your kids have? It seems that Mass has too many vacation weeks. We have: Christmas to New Year, February break, and April vacation.

Personally, I would like to see Feb break go even though I'm a big skier. Would probably kill the ski economy if we did that.

Frown: Going ladder shopping with the in-laws later. There is simply no way an eight foot ladder is going to be tall enough to cover my house. I spoke with my Father and the first thing he said was "Luke, you have ten foot ceilings for crying out loud! How is an eight foot ladder going to help?". I said that I was going to push for a sixteen foot ladder and my Father then said "You need a twenty foot ladder if you want to attempt a decent job. And it needs to be a twenty foot A-frame that is collapsible ladder so you can store the sucker. And buy a Werner. Last thing you want is a cheap ladder".

If you're looking for an A-frame ladder, I recommend getting a Little Giant. They're expensive but are really built well. You can get one cheaper by buying at Costco. Otherwise, you have to do it online. You can also save a little money by buying it through their outlet store.

I thought it was a joke at first, but we recently lifted a 1000lb Ibeam at a friends house and the Little Giants held it up on its own. I want one now.

Smile: Had a great weekend with my two eldest. Went to gymnastics and a pool party, they had a blast.

Frown: My youngest must be teething or something, we were up all night with her. I am exhausted for work today ... time to hit the coffee machine one more time!

If you're looking for an A-frame ladder...

Too late. Went ladder shopping on Saturday. Got a 20' straight, collapsible Werner ladder. It's nice, but I need an extra eight to ten feet. I was told the ladder is my birthday and Christmas gift. Yippie. For Christmas I'll return the favor and buy them something I want them to have and not what they specifically asked for. Maybe a gift card to a sushi bar.


Frown: My wife's family owns a lot of timber land (two separate words people) and not only hasn't it made us any money in the past three years, it has cost us a few hundred dollars. It's family owned but my wife and I want to sell, sell sell the stuff.

When we discussed it with my wife's family, they said "But it is family. Give it a few more years". Screw that. I'm not paying to lose money.

And after that discussion I also learned that my wife already has a burial spot in a family burial plot. Planning for burial is both smart and dumb. When my friend Ryan died, his body was sent from California to NC so he could be buried in a family plot. Not only was it expensive and creepy, my friend wanted to be cremated and spread across the Pacific Ocean. I mean, he is dead so it doesn't matter, but I hope my family respects my last rites.

I can understand this. My grandmother owns a large piece of property with a mansion on it full of interesting artwork, but the mansion is crumbling and poorly built, much of the artwork is damaged, and there has been no estimate to the value of any of it. My mother wants to keep the land and house for nostalgic reasons once my grandmother dies. One of my brothers wants to keep it because he is interested in what he can do with the land. I see it as a massive expense not worth the upkeep and want to sell it.
