What? You mean you actually could get enough of his doughy face, ridiculous pompadour, atonal singing, and shapeless physique?Michi wrote:I'm pretty sure I've got that on my DVR. After this week I needed a bit of a boost in happiness so I watched HARVEY.
Best movie ever? No.
My favorite movie ever? Possibly.

It would be nice to see a remake of Harvey vith Jim Parsons as Dowd, Elwood P. He played the role on broadway and I thought that was perfect casting. It'd probably be a hard sell to producers today though ("A comedy with no bathroom humor or foul language? It'll never catch on"). Sigh.

HARVEY is perfect. Too much of a classic to even attempt a remake. Like red roses on Valentine's day, you can't beat a classic.
And I'm not sure if HARVEY should be classified as a comedy. Not saying you are wrong by doing so, but it transcends comedy, yes? As much drama as comedy, no? I'd hate to call it a "dram-edy", but maybe "Stage on Film"?
I put it in the same area as ET; I don't know how to classify it under anything but "Amazing".

I was thinking of watching Oblivion but I just didn't feel like contributing to Scientology.

Is it a Scientologist film? I hadn't heard that.

It was a bad joke. Anyway it doesn't look interesting enough to warrant the trip.

No, just that Tom Cruise is a well-known Scientologist.Retrodude wrote:Is it a Scientologist film? I hadn't heard that.

In honor of Hitler's birthday, I watched To Be or Not to Be, the 1983 version starring Mel Brooks. That is a very entertaining and poignant remake of the original 1942 film. I am a firm believer of the Mel Brooks statement, "by using the medium of comedy, we can try to rob Hitler of his posthumous power and myths."

Fun Trivia!: When Mel Brooks was serving in the military during WWII, there was one occasion where the Germans were blasting Nazi propaganda at them through loud speakers. In response, Mel Brooks set up his own loudspeakers and blasted Al Jolson records right back at them. Awesome.
