I'm not huge into fighters, so that's part of it. I actually haven't played very many Vs games, and the ones I have were all in an arcade. I don't remember her character.
I think I'll start with Vampire Savior and take it slowly, probably burning some of the older games (starting with Vampire Hunter) to try before I buy.

@o.p. - Just tried the NGCD version of Magician Lord; the load times on startup and between levels is actually decent. Maybe about 1 min. or less.
It's a solid game with a decent difficulty level.

There's also Spinmaster/Miracle Adventure (Data East), MVS & AES.

Top Hunter and Spin Master are both run 'n gun, not traditional platformers. There are quite a few games in that genre on MVS and a few on CD.
