Starbound

It shocks me that there is no topic about this (mostly because it is my most anticipated game of this year). For those who dont know it is a Terraria like game in space with multiple plants and randomly generated everything. So take Terraria and when you are done with the world you are on you can either leave and go to another, terraform it, or just mine it down to nothing then leave. There will be a story, but you can ignore it and just explore and build. And since I logged several hundred hours into Terraria, this is almost a no brainer for me.

They just opened preorders yesterday with stretch goals and have already reached their first which added a sixth player race. As excited I am about this, I am not preordering until they give a release date.

This looks like it will really build upon what Terraria and Minecraft did and really appeal to those who loved those games. Looks really well done. I'm not one that dug Terraria personally, but still looks interesting.

My problems with Terraria were that most maps were fundamentally the same, and the crafting system was needlessly complex, moreso than minecraft. That's part of why I did more exploring than building.

If I may ask, what about Terraria was more complex? I haven't played Minecraft in a while, but last time I did you couldn't take a material to a guide and have them tell you all the things you could make with it. Terraria certainly had more to craft but I didn't think it was necessarily more complex.

Anyways, keeping my eye on this game's development. Looking forward to it very much indeed...

Not necessarily, just needlessly. Somethings, like the Watch, required way more than it should have. They have modified it over time, but on launch the watch needed a chain, alot of gold, and a drop that was like 1 in 100 from a random enemy in the dungeon. Now I think it needs a chain, gold, and a clock. From the last big update the game made some things easier and some just insane - I still dont have a Hamdrax because it needs so much crap.

More this. You had so many needless crafting stations and such, and it was hard to remember what was needed where and such. Minecraft is much simpler with just the crafting bench and furnace as essentials, and the anvil/enchanting table/potion stand as extras things. It's also why one of the biggest turnoffs for a minecraft mod for me is to create its own crafting system when a previously existing system could have sufficed.
