New 2D (well, overhead) Zelda coming out for 3DS
New 2D (well, overhead) Zelda coming out for 3DS
(gameplay at 0:25)
Looks like we're getting a new overhead style Zelda game for the 3DS next holiday season. Apparently this one takes place in the same world as A Link to the Past (and it shows). I'm all for another overhead Zelda, the one thing that does bug me just a bit is the emphasis on 3D though.

Not sure what to think of this ATM. I know it'll be a fun and well made game, but...I'm not feeling the art style I guess. Can't help but think it would look so much nicer with 2d sprites. The ability to enter the walls looks really interesting though!

ughh why cant they take advantage of the 3DS hardware, ocarina of time 3d looked amazing on the 3DS. This game looks just like the other DS zelda games. On the other hand I'd love to see a 2.5 D metroid on the 3ds.

This^ is what's confusing me. Is it going to be literally the same overworld but with different dungeons? If so, I'd be a little disappointed. I want to see a new some new worlds... But I'm sure the game will be fun regardless.Dylan wrote:Apparently this one takes place in the same world as A Link to the Past (and it shows).

I'd be excited if it was a remake of link to the past if it was done in full 3D like OOT but this doesn't look too impressive to me, but I'll probably buy it anyway >.>

They might add more areas to the over world since I'd imagine they'll drop the dark world concept for this one.Opa Opa wrote:This^ is what's confusing me. The gameplay looks really promising though, so I'm sure I'll get it at some point.

I'm seeing lots of use of 3D space in general and things that just couldn't be done with sprites.CavZee wrote:Not sure what to think of this ATM. I am not worried about the final product on this one. It looks like the art style, for link at least, is very true to the manual for the original Link to the Past.
Nintendo always utilizes the features of their system to the fullest in their games. I am sure there will be very interesting puzzles that will use the 3D feature in cool and unusual ways.

It's basically confirmation that Nintendo has no plans to abandon top-down Zeldas. That alone is reason to be happy I think.
