I could definitely see how someone would consider being outright accused of plagiarism to be an "obvious troll post."BoneSnapDeez wrote:That's strange and seems out of character for him (not that I know him in real life).Retrodude wrote:Happy Console Gamer is a jerk. I commented that it seemed awfully convenient that he released a "movie" around the same time the AVGN is doing one and it seemed an awful lot like a ripoff (even if he "announced" that he was doing a movie first, he released the trailer a year after the AVGN movie was announced, which tells me he probably wasn't actually intending to do one unless the AVGN did). Instead of replying or trying to defend himself, or simply ignoring me for that matter, he deleted my comment like an immature, insecure, whiny little bitch. The man is a fucking coward. If he's so full of himself that he won't allow any negative comments on his videos at all, he doesn't deserve to have any sort of fanbase.
His movie is nothing like the AVGN one, as far as I can tell.
But yeah, I'm not cool with comment deleting - unless the comments are obvious spam/troll posts.

But that's just it. I didn't really accuse him of plagiarism. I merely suggested that his following the leader (as TV Tropes would put it) was a bit too obvious. If that's considered trolling now, then the definition has gotten way too broad.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

It's considered rude, at least.Retrodude wrote:But that's just it. I didn't really accuse him of plagiarism. I merely suggested that his following the leader (as TV Tropes would put it) was a bit too obvious. If that's considered trolling now, then the definition has gotten way too broad.

That is every game "reviewer" in a nut shell.Retrodude wrote: Fair enough. It just aggravates me in general when people refuse to accept any criticism at all.
Post: Here's our review of the top 10 worst NES games.
Comment: You didn't review the games, you just showed screen shots and shouted "this sucks" .
Post: F--k off. If you don't like our reviews don't watch them.
It's the equivalent of watching a movie review where you just watch Ebert watch the movie and it ends with him just giving it a thumbs up or down with only a gesture.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
It's a problem with reviewers with an agenda, at least. People who articulate the reasons they enjoy the game beyond relative absolutions (i.e. "I like the feeling playing this gives me," instead of "I like this game because it's better than that game and thus it's obviously the best").Luke wrote:That is every game "reviewer" in a nut shell.Retrodude wrote: Fair enough. My views on a review is that it should be a personal account of what you enjoyed and experienced, and what frustrated you, that you are merely sharing with others. Any attempt to extrapolate that into some sort of larger narrative feels self-indulging.
Similarly, if all I'm doing is giving my opinion on why I enjoyed something, I feel like I can't really ever be wrong, you know? So if someone comes in and totally disagrees, their opposing viewpoint has no baring on my own feelings about the game and I don't need to get heated.
EDIT: To tie this back into Splashwave - that's precisely why I like that channel so much. The guy doesn't go through and review everything in an attempt to sort of categorize and systematically chronicle an entire library of games. Hence, you never see episodes dedicated to telling you how awful so-and-so game is. Rather, it's treated the way I mentioned above. It's more like a really passionate fan of some obscure games dropping all the sorts of super-trivia knowledge bombs on you that you can handle. Obvious, well-researched enthusiasm without attempting to cut down others is infectious, I've found.

First of all, do not think for a second that you are the first, or probably even hundredth person to make that sort of comment. If your particular comment offered nothing original, then I would have deleted it too, as its just clutter.Retrodude wrote: Instead of replying or trying to defend himself, or simply ignoring me for that matter, he deleted my comment like an immature, insecure, whiny little bitch. Second, he does not know you, and has never agreed to respond to every person that asks him why he is copying James Rolfe. That you think he should not have a fan base at all purely because he deleted your comment shows just how full of yourself YOU are.
Thats odd, I recall a few of us criticizing an opinion of yours, and you basically resorted to namecalling.Retrodude wrote: Fair enough. It just aggrevates me in general when people refuse to accept any criticism at all.

Hey, I didn't use the words, "Immature, insecure, whiny little bitch", nor did I use the words, "Fucking coward" I think my response was pretty tame, considering what it was a response toLuke wrote:Easy now guys.
But alright, I guess I'll play nice.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
That's a big thing about writing a review; being able to jump out of your skin and see things from other viewpoints. Yet, every reviewer should have certain standards that they stick by and tell the audience why those ground rules apply. There should always be an x to y comparison that is logical. In movies the standard is "Would I rather watch this movie or watch the actors have dinner together?". So far the video game review standard is "I'd rather eat the rotten asshole of a roadkill skunk than play this game".TheSonicRetard wrote: Similarly, if all I'm doing is giving my opinion on why I enjoyed something, I feel like I can't really ever be wrong, you know?

Can't say I disagree, but I'd rather not see this thread turn into a back and forward conversation about "who is the real jerk?".dunpeal2064 wrote:Hey, I didn't use the words, "Immature, insecure, whiny little bitch", nor did I use the words, "Fucking coward" I think my response was pretty tame, considering what it was a response toLuke wrote:Easy now guys.

I like both of ya, and thanks for playing nice.
