Chrontendo has been an AMAZING source of FC/NES knowledge for me, and for someone who absorbs all that obscure and even trivia-packed information, it's been great. You really see the great pains that American publishers did to really change games for release here, as well as the Japanese obsession with mystery-style graphic adventure games ("a clone of Portopia") There's also Chronturbo(Grafx-16 games) and Chronsega(Master System games).

The other series aaron might be thinking of is Generation16 (YouTube username sewartg), who has been doing a Chrontendo-type trip with Sega Genesis games.

I don't completely agree with this. I think it has to do with whether they are knowledgeable on the subject and actually talk about the item. Like Nester81's videos, where he does show items in his collection but then talks about their history, design, gameplay, shows how they work, where their plugs or battery packs go, etc. These guys can provide some interesting information on unique equipment we can't easily get our hands on.

I'm fine with that style of video. Happy Console Gamer has a great SuperGrafx vid in that style, for instance.

I was thinking more of the dudes who simply list things they own to show off, or the guys who take consoles out of box while dryly listing the components ("this is the AV cable, this is the power supply..."). So bad.

Even worse are the snobby video game "historians" and "experts." At the absolute bottom of the barrel we have the "look how much stuff I own" knuckleheads and the unboxers.
It's not like Rolfe himself hasn't lacked knowledge on more occasion than one. How in the hell are "snobby video game historians and experts" worse than Rolfe and his ilk? Yeah damn those pretentious people who actually like to talk about facts and history and educate people rather than have fist fights with Bugs Bunny (and various other characters), have other hilarious characters that don't really contribute anything to the review like "shit pickle" (who just keeps on saying "shit pickle" over and over again during the review). And gotta have fake shit/diarrhea being "pooped" on top of old consoles among other things.

I don't see a point to Happy Console Gamers videos. They have very little informational value, nor are they entertaining as he doesn't follow a script (nor does he have the kind of wit/charisma/insight as some one like classic game room or total biscuit that makes unscripted talking enjoyable). And he tends to ramble quite a lot; he usually repeats the same stuff over and over again. Usually I don't get any new information from his reviews. I watch videos like this to find new information: development history, historical siginifcance, analysis of plot or game mechanics and so on. New games to buy, and I like to get a better picture of different game genres and gaming as a whole.

Video game history videos do not have to be dry. But then again, I like retro games so many retro game videos fascinate me. Take Happy Video Game Nerd's D/Enemy Zero/D2, Splatter House and Earthbound reviews, Lazy Game Reviews Jazz Jackrabbit history and Spoony's Ultima retrospectives for instance. Or just about any Errant Signal video. They talk about the history and development of those games, the people behind them (Lord British, Kenji Eno), historical significance, soundtracks of the games, the plots, the gameplay mechanics, the packaging/manuals and also mention many little details within the games. All of them are very entertaining with out any need for forced comedy or stupid "character cameos" (with the exception of Spoony's later Ultima reviews). Just facts, analysis and gameplay with some fanboy praise thrown in the mix. Happy Console Gamer style videos on the otherhand usually offer very little information. I get to see what the game box is like and a short descrpition of the game. Nothing I couldn't find from Wikipedia. That doesn't help me decide whether I should buy the game or not nor tell me anything about it that I couldn't find myself with minimal research (Wikipedia). Those longer retrospective videos on the otherhand often contain a lot of information that you don't see just by looking at the wikipedia article.

Happy Console Gamer does have some decent videos though, like his Guardian Heroes video.

Splash Wave is probably my favorite web-show devoted to gaming. It's extremely well produced, covers all things Sega and MSX, and avoids pitfalls like poor onscreen personalities by nixing them all together - it's all text. It reminds me of Pop Up Videos, only for video games.

Best video game show ever, IMO. I'm a major fan of the guy's work.

Happy Console Gamer is a jerk. I commented that it seemed awfully convenient that he released a "movie" around the same time the AVGN is doing one and it seemed an awful lot like a ripoff (even if he "announced" that he was doing a movie first, he released the trailer a year after the AVGN movie was announced, which tells me he probably wasn't actually intending to do one unless the AVGN did). Instead of replying or trying to defend himself, or simply ignoring me for that matter, he deleted my comment like an immature, insecure, whiny little bitch. The man is a fucking coward. If he's so full of himself that he won't allow any negative comments on his videos at all, he doesn't deserve to have any sort of fanbase.

Admittedly though, you also sound like an "immature, insecure, whiny little bitch" for complaining this loudly over having a comment deleted. It happens.

Fair enough. It just aggrevates me in general when people refuse to accept any criticism at all. My tendency when I see BS is to call the person on it and if they're too cowardly to respond, or even allow others to respond for them, it riles me more than just about anything else.

That's strange and seems out of character for him (not that I know him in real life).

His movie is nothing like the AVGN one, as far as I can tell.

But yeah, I'm not cool with comment deleting - unless the comments are obvious spam/troll posts.
