I am looking for a gen 1 sega cd and have only had luck finding them on ebay. The prices vary wildly and I haven't been able to find on on these forums, so I was curious what the community thought was a good price for one.
It needs to be working. Have the proper connections. The led lights need to work.
Thanks!
How much should I pay for a gen 1 sega cd?
Re: How much should I pay for a gen 1 sega cd?
I've seen them go around $90 working. Do not buy an untested one as those usually don't work, and tend to go for more than ones that the seller honestly says the item doesn't work.

About what I was thinking. I think $100 shipped for the cd drive alone is about right.Jamisonia wrote:I've seen them go around $90 working. Do not buy an untested one as those usually don't work, and tend to go for more than ones that the seller honestly says the item doesn't work.

I think you could probably find a better deal on one of the forums at some point. $100 for the model 1 seems a bit excessive... but I guess they are harder to come by in good working condition. Good luck with your search!

Its very difficult to find one in working condition, and they are often not easy to fix.8bit wrote:I think you could probably find a better deal on one of the forums at some point. $100 for the model 1 seems a bit excessive... but I guess they are harder to come by in good working condition. I have been wanting one of these for a long time but they are pretty rare in Australia. They typically go for $200+ on ebay, but that's usually as part of a lot, and not very often at all.

Prices in the states seem to be a lot lower than here in Australia. God is right, we're flat out getting a bare console for less than $150. For you I would think around $80 working is a fair price

Honestly I would not even invest in one unless you found it in the wild for a GREAT deal. A year ago I also had the dream of owning a Gen 1 CD and after almost a 3 month long ordeal of buying a "Working Model 1 Sega CD" from 3 different people with awesome ratings, all 3 did not work. They are just too damn finicky. It looks so sweet on the bottom on your Genesis 1 but in reality it is just a nice stand for it to sit on. Go with the Model 2 and just grit you teeth like I have had to
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!

Re: How much should I pay for a gen 1 sega cd?
I've had my ver. 1.1.0 Sega CD since launch in 1992, and *knocks on wood* have never had an issue with it (and I use it a LOT).
I'd never sell it, but if for some reason I had an issue with it I would pay between $70usd and $100usd shipped for a replacement.
I would ask the seller:
How many games have been tested on the console?
Have you tested burned games?
Have you tested audio cd's?
Are the graphics clear or grainy?
Has the CD tray ever had to have been pushed in to close it?
Do the games boot immediately after the Sonic Sega screen ends?
Good luck!
