Personally, I'd say Evolution was the "best" one ... followed by the first ... the others a trash. Rise of Lycans, literally, has no reason to exist, and Awakening was freaking horrible.
I saw Jurassic Park in IMAX. Love that movie, obviously it was great.

It's okay Jinx. I enjoyed The Last Airbender and I've had to put up with everyone saying that movie's horrible when it's really not. Fortunately, M Night Shaymalan has indicated that he may yet be able to finish the trilogy, so I really hope he does.

I had seen a few episodes of the show, but I didn't know a whole lot about it. I'm watching the show now (late to the party, I know), but I still think the movie's not nearly as bad as people say it is. First, I imagine that condensing 20 episodes of story to two hours wasn't an easy task and I think they did as well as could be expected. Second, The big change he made was trying to make the story into a pure epic fantasy tale. Sure it lost a lot of the show's humor, but I think it was a legitimate choice for an adaptation. It's not bad, just different. Lest we forget, there are other examples of such "condensed show" films out there and some of them are just as different from the source show (Escaflowne The Movie, Macross: Do You Remember Love?). If you don't care for it, that's fine, but I resent the implication that I can't enjoy both the show and the movie, which is basically what I've been told by fans of the show.

I didn't hate it as much as this guy, but the movie's effects looked like there made with a shoe string budget, ruining it for me.

No no, I agree on the condensing 10 hours of show (20 or so half hour episodes in book 1) into 2 hours of movie. That wasn't my problem. And I didn't really care about the whole "race" thing that it was allegedly plagued with.
It was the production, writing, and acting that made it really stink. Things were done that just didn't need to be. Sokka's name is pronounced "sock-ah", not "Soak Uh". Why change it? Avatar was pronounced 'a-vah-tar', not "Uh-vuh-tur".
The scene where Ang reminds the Earth Benders that they are standing on ... earth!... was dumb as well. The show didn't have weird things like that. If someone could bend, they did, and they did it with all of their being. I did think that the kid from Slumdog was a pretty good choice for Zuko though. And even Iroh ("ee-row" in the movie, lol) was well done too.
But the kid they got to play Aang was just... so wooden. I'm not saying you can't enjoy them independently. I'm just saying that the movie fell far from the mark set by the Show. I guess watching the show before the film really helps you to see a lot of the stupid things they did, or changed for the film. Kinda like Serenity. You can enjoy Serenity without ever even knowing about Firefly, but if you watch Firefly, you have SO much more of a love for the characters, that it makes Serenity that much more amazing as a film.
On the other side of the coin, having a huge appreciation for the Avatar show really does make you go "aw... man, they messed that part up" when watching the film.
