That Harmo Knight trailer I just saw looks great. I'm going to download the demo

I've been showing my 3DS some love recently with Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate. Having two 3DS systems means I don't have to keep switching out games. I've also been playing Thor God of Thunder on my old DS

I had planned on getting a Vita this year, but it's still too expensive so I'm spending more time with the 3DS and DS,

Ugh, Harmoknight is frustrating. I used to be a pro as Space Channel 5 and Bust a Groove, and I've done well in other music games, but this game...

The game's sense of rhythm just feels very "off". I'm finding it very unintuitive and it's annoying. It seems the game will toss you a gold rank even if you mess up a bunch of times in a stage, which feels like an admission that the game's sense of rhythm and timing is effed up.

Vita is too expensive, but you have 2 3DS?

Well, I ended up with 2 of them during the Xmas season when I had Xmas bonus money as well as people buying me stuff. Thus, I ended up with 2 3DS systems. Money is much tighter for me at this time of year, and I also don't have the benefit of people giving me gifts or I'd ask someone for that Vita that I can't afford. I had hoped to use tax refund money to get a Vita, but it ended up going towards other things

Are you listening to the music? If you try to do it visually, you'll be off.

I dont know, on the demo, during the boss fight I could not get the timing, i even resorted to closing my eyes and doing it only based on the music. I agree that there is something slightly off about it.

Yeah, I agree. Just for comparison, I played a bit of Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure yesterday just to see if it was me. I was getting perfects on most of my timed button prompts and finishing levels with A ranks (Rhythm King!). So it's not like I've gotten shitty at these types of games. It's just something about the way Harmo Knight is designed. I mean I've played Guitaroo Man for chrissakes, I'm good at music games.

Some games have you hitting slightly ahead or behind the beat. Not uncommon on poorly done games. Or sometimes there are just a few songs that seem just the slightest bit ahead or behind. I notice this even on Project DIVA. But very minor. As a drummer I think my timing is reasonable though certainly not perfect.

But being a little off is more common on console rhythm games because of HDTV input lag. And that is why those games generally have calibration features that portables do not.
