One thing that always bothered me about that show was the premise. The big robots to fight big monsters thing is fine by me - it's pretty logical, all things considered. It just bothered me that teenagers were given access to powered armor, directed energy weapons, and combat mechs the size of sky scrapers instead of, well, the military. Or at least adults with some form of paramilitary training.

The power rangers were freaking terrible at their jobs. You almost never saw Angel Grove going to any efforts to evacuate - whenever the power rangers tossed a giant eyeball or bat monster against a building and it exploded apart, it was a safe bet that you also just saw four or five hundred lives snuffed out. And they did it so casually. There was one episode where I think they might have actually picked up a building and used it as a club. A freaking club! Can you imagine a worse last couple of seconds for the people inside?

On top of that, you never saw the national guard making any effort to calm things down in the back ground. Maybe there was footage of the JSDF in the back ground of the original Super Sentai footage but that got edited out when Saban got their hands on it. It's like the US Military decided Angel Grove wasn't worth saving, like Bill Clinton had a grudge against Southern California or maybe the town was behind on its taxes.

I was thinking along the same lines earlier when I was watching the Powerpuff Girls. The citizens never really run away, they just kinda move around to avoid getting hit. They're even a few scenes with women standing next to their baby buggies while watching the monster fight. All I could think of was why the hell weren't they getting out of there? I wonder what the death toll is in these shows.

PPG kinda lampshades this from time to time though. I remember a lot of scenes and episodes where the citizens basically ignore the monster attacks and just treat them like a everyday occurance.

Didn't you hear Zordon in the intro? He needs teenagers with attitude. No one else is qualified to save the world.

Even so, if giant monsters, green people, and crazy monkeys were the norm, I think I would leave.

Ergh, I hate watching theses shows through the eyes of an adult now. Some of them are funnier, and some just make me sad.

That's a common theme for most of JRPGs made after Neon Genesis Evangelion and Final Fantasy 7
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Interesting. The world was destroyed in both of those. With attitude.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
