There seems to have been a third explosion, but the police apparently figured out where it would be and cleared the area in advance so no one was hurt. Man, I hope this was just a ruptured gas line or something.

Apparently it's the time most people, not the top runners, would finish the marathon.

A third device has been safely exploded by the police.

Controlled explosion over at the city library, according to the Boston Globe's twitter feed. Boston police are also calling in all off-duty personnel.

I'm outside the Empire State Building, and there's no panic or anything here. I don't know why any hotel in NY would evacuate.

Bloomberg says the NYPD are stepping up security and police presence, but no evacuations. Keep your ears open up there though, and good luck o.pwuaioc.

Well, considering all that's happened there, I wouldn't blame them for being cautious.

President Obama has been notified and is in talks with the local government about the response.

Supposed claims of deaths, though nothing that seems to be verified.
Also, from the standpoint of someone trying to send a message with a bomb, wouldn't a sports stadium or convention center be a better target than a marathon?
There's no security when watching a marathon like this, spectators just stand on the street. The bombs went off exactly where I was watching the race back in '07 or so.

I was actually planning on running Boston this year, but didn't end up qualifying. I've heard that my friends are okay - this is one of those days that makes me thankful for cell phones and whatnot.

Scary shit.

Two dead thus far, dozens injured.

Senseless.

White House is on lock down apparently (according to CNN).

If this is an attack (as I assume), what is to gain other than killing innocent people? Hopefully not a diversion as two more explosive devices have been found in Boston.

Wow, I've been tied up in meetings most of the day, and first heard from this from my mom. She asked if I had heard about the Boston Marathon, which I left me confused, as that's all she said. She only knows that I want to run it. Then I tune in and two bombs have gone off!? I've always wanted to qualify for it, but I have some time to cut down before making a go at it.

What a tragedy. So far 2 dead, 22 injured? My heart goes out to all that are there.
