I got HORI EX2 Stick for 360

Post by gennss »

So i bought this stick, even though i was looking for a dreamcast one simply to play a few fighters and shmups i have for the 360. Immediately i noticed the difference playing with a stick really helps.

My complaints though is that the button layout is retarded so i have to remap controls most of the time, AND the buttons aren't very clicky, they're kinda mushi, the stick is good tho.

Different buttons have different micro-switches. Hori sticks usually use a Sanwa or Seimitsu button or clone. A lot of candy cab buttons are one solid unit and have a lot less throw than the American style like a Happs.

If it bugs you, it should be a pretty easy mod.

Using a joystick instead of a 360 D-pad on fighting games and shoot 'em ups make a world of difference. You should get extra points for trying to play these sort of games with the d-pad in the first place.

Just in case you haven't browsed through this particular site yet:

It deserves reposting from time to time.

Remapping isn't a good complaint. As long as you can, you only have to do it once. A real complaint is about games that don't let you do it at all. That pisses me off (Castle Crashers).

I'm surprised you say the buttons aren't clicky. Mine are. Well, they're not supposed to actually go "click" but they are considered less mushy than the american standard concave ones.

And EDIT: yes...these sticks are most definitely Hori-made clone parts. The real thing is better, but this is good for the price if you're not making your own.

Yeah, and the buttons aren't all that easy to change on those as they're soldered to the PCB and everything is a tight fit compared to a HRAP or comparable.

yeh I have to say I compared the EX2 versus my HRAP (PS2) and there is SOME difference in terms of feel, the actual HRAP stick seems to have a thicker feel resistance-wise when you move it (more like my DC stick)and it slightly less 'rattly' but overall apart from the obvious stuff (like the HRAP is bigger) they feel very similar, and I've certainly not felt let down by it to any great extent, although i did feel that I needed to be more careful with my releases and small taps in Ikaruga (say for example when trying to get really close to the rotating cubes near the end of Chapter 2) I felt a nudge might smash me into them whereas on my DC or on my HRAP (through PS2 - GC adapter on Wii) I didnt feel this.

having said that it is the best non homemade stick available for 360 atm I think

(although Im definitely getting one of those SFIV ones when they come out ;) )

I have the SF4 TE stick, and I must say the buttons are very clicky. It really feels like there's no resistence to pushing the buttons, so you get that very satisfying feel of a sudden hard stop that corresponds with your action.
