Imma let you finish but my post is gonna be one of the best OF ALL TIME!
I have nothing to do, nowhere to go, my computer is broken and my only handheld is a Game Boy Color. I can't play games and I'm sick of writing ten hours a day so I decided to watch movies.
First I decided to watch The Bride of Frankenstein because it sounded like a cool movie. And it's fun. Sure, some of the acting is poor, the scenes have no relation so each other and the ending is way too abrupt. But I didn't care because I was getting monsters and lynch mobs and unlike others films, it doesn't try to be dumb, it's a smart film and there's a lot of intelligence under the surface.
Then I saw Lost in Translation which is often described as a romantic comedy but it's one of the saddest films I've ever seen. It's not depressing but there's so much lonelyness in it that I seriously can't fathom how anyone laughs with it with the exception of one or two scenes.
That said, I didn't understand it which according to Roger Ebert was very common, but my issue is not with the general plot or characters but with many scenes or ideas I'm simply not knowledgeable about to understand fully.
For example. What's up with the opening shot? I doubt Coppola is just trying to put some asses on the screen. I also didn't understand why Murray's character slept with the singer, which according to Ebert again, it's pretty obvious.
So okey, I have two more days to go which means four or five films. One of them will be Fargo but I haven't really thought about the other three. Any suggestions?
PD: Am I the only one that saw a relation between Castlevania's Chicken and The Bride of Frankenstein? It can't be a coincidence!

For suggestions go to IMDb they list films that are similar on the title's main page.. and watch trailers on Youtube and check out aggregate sites like Metacritic and RottenTomatoes. [rec] and its sequel are worthy of watching unless you watched them already.

Crawlspace
For a low-budget Australian production I'm going to cut Crawlspace some slack and say it's entertaining if you keep your expectations in check. ★★★ (out of five)

I'll try to look around and see what fits. I'm going to watch them with my sister (16) and I really want her to enjoy it so we watch more movies later on.

If you narrowed it down to specific genres we could come up with several suggestions.

Final Approach
A curious little film that spills its beans in the very title. However for its time it's a story well told and the acting is quite respectable. Available on Youtube for anyone interested (No DVD release so far)

I don't have any preference, just a great film a teenager would enjoy.

Watched most of "The Hunger Games" last night. Couldn't finish it. It's terrible, yeah?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
No, it really isn't. I actually expected it to be terrible and was genuinely surprised that not only is it an entertaining story, but there was quite a lot for the film student side of my brain to digest (like how the whole story is an allegory criticising our obsession with reality television by taking it to the logical extreme). I can't wait for the other two films. I'd like to read the books, but my friends who have tell me I'll enjoy the films more if I don't.mjmjr25 wrote:It's terrible, yeah?
EDIT: The Croods is amazing. If you haven't seen it yet, you need to go NOW. It's one of those films that's so awesome on the big screen that watching it on your tv would ruin it. That's why I bought a projector last year. It's not exactly the same as a real theater viewing, of course, but it's close enough for me.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

I wouldn't say terrible. Twilight is terrible. THG is not that bad. Perhaps General_Norris would like to include it on his playlist.mjmjr25 wrote:Watched most of "The Hunger Games" last night. Couldn't finish it. It's terrible, yeah?

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
That would be due to the fact that the books are far superior.Retrodude wrote: I'd like to read the books, but my friends who have tell me I'll enjoy the films more if I don't.
The Hunger Games is about murder and survival, life and death, fight vs. flight. The main flaw of the movie adaptation is that when someone dies, it doesn't make much of an impact as the characters aren't fleshed out well enough and the audience doesn't have the time to connect but with a character or two. When someone kicks the bucket in the movie it's more of a "one more down, x more to go".
If you enjoyed the movie, read the books. And as a film student you should know to read the book before seeing the screen adaptation.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
The Hunger Games is "The Lottery"...60 years later and adding "The Condemned" element. I suppose you "Surviving the Game" and "No Escape" are similar ideas.
I think i would have liked the movie 20 years ago, but it's not 20 years ago and it felt tired, forced and wholly unoriginal. Stanley Tucci, who I usually like, had me cringing.
