Installing XBMC and a HDD

Post by Saraph »

Thanks to vlame I have modded my XBOX (will send it back in a day or so after I get the XBMC disc ready for you).

So my question is, how do I get this 500GB HDD in this thing and have XBMC as the default dashboard? I've looked for tutorials but really, what is the best method?

BTW, it took me 10 minutes to mod this thing. That was almost as easy as the PSP.

Installing a larger hard drive is slightly more difficult (not much though)
Google for xbox hd creator.
You have to generate the unique hard drive unlock key for your xbox, then transfer your old hard drive files over, then lock the new hard drive.
The aforementioned program makes it pretty easy though.

It's as simple as copying XBMC folder to your C drive and then overwriting your dashboard xbox executable (.xbe) with your dashboard xbe.

I'd make a backup just in case things go tits-up though.

I just have a shortcut to launch xbmc from unleashx's main menu I find that's the most fool proof and most versatile because you don't always want to wait for xbmc to start up if you just want to play the game that's already in the disk drive.

How long does it take for XBMC to start up, if it's just 20 or so seconds it's not a big deal. Besides, I will most likely just use this to play DVD's and movies off the HDD. BTW, I put in a DVD and launched it in the unleashX menu and nothing happened, just a black screen? What should I do? It was a retail Ghost Rider NTSC-U, console is NSTC-U. I just replaced the laser and games read perfectly fine, do I need to enable something?

So my next course of action should be to make XBMC the default, or install the HDD first? Can I have UnleashedX as a program then?
