Is it worth it to buy a Super Famicom?
Is it worth it to buy a Super Famicom?
A buddy of mine has a Super Famicom he wants to sell. Since I had been thinking about getting a SNES for awhile, I thought about just buying it from him. However, I want to be able to play US releases on it as well. Is it possible? I know you can mod a SNES to play imports, but what about the other way around? If I can, or there's an adaptor, I'd like to do it, because the Super Famicom looks so much better than the SNES.
Re: Is it worth it to buy a Super Famicom?
adaptor is the easiest or case mod, but you'd need a busted snes for the cart flap.

I also rent and sell PS2, Wii and XBOX softmod-kits and I collect DVD movies let me know what you have.

I have a Super Famicom and definetly recommend getting it. You can get adaptors that let you play US games on the Super Famicom too. You might want to look for one that supports the special chips found inside games like Donkey Kong Country and Star Fox.

I have both US and JP SNES' and while the US SNES is the best when it comes to playing US and JP games w/o a converter, I hear you on the looks. Hell, I painted my SNES black years ago~redmachus wrote:A buddy of mine has a Super Famicom he wants to sell. In short, get both.
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Re: Is it worth it to buy a Super Famicom?
As stated...it's good pretty much just for looks. The US SNES is super easy to imports on, but the JP SFC has a smaller cart slot and won't fit without a adapter. Personally I'm happy with the model 2 us snes even though it doesn't have s-video output. Much better looking than the beast version....though i do like the eject button.

why not get a retro duo?
im pretty sure they play all region carts, they even play nes games.
you can use your old snes pads if you have some, though the stock pads are apparently very good.
they sell for about $40 on ebay afaik.

Because it isn't 100% hardware accurate for neither the SNES nor NES. Well that, and the pads aren't so nice.gibberoids wrote:why not get a retro duo?

Re: Is it worth it to buy a Super Famicom?
I bought a Super Nintendo (US), and use the Super-Flash card flashcart ftom Tototek on it.
With the Super T Connector add-on, as long as you have any cart at all from the region that you want to play, you can use that cart to get back region protection.
Romhacking.net lists 103 Japanese SNES game translations from Japanese to English, a reason to use a flashcart in itself.
Unfortunately, Tototek are out of them at the moment, but they are definitely worth seeking out/waiting for more to be available.
There's also copiers, but I'm still learning about those.

Just get an SNES 2 and saw off the lockout tabs inside. No converters needed.
