The Elusive Sega Saturn S-Video Cable

Post by Cosmonacht »

I have two Sega Saturns that need an S-Video cable but i'm having trouble trying to find these things. With any other system it isn't as hard i'd think but these things are just straight up elusive! Has anyone got a source for them that still has them in stock, ideally for a decent price?

Thanks!

Short answer: Nope.

Silver lining? If you're not handy with a soldering iron, I hear modding it to have s-video jacks on it (typically place on the battery door cover) is almost trivial.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

I've never soldered before but i'm not exactly ham-handed... are there any basic instructions I can see if it's something I think I can try my hand at?

Thanks!

I ordered a terribly overpriced official Japanese S-Video cable to sate my desire for crisp gaming pleasure in the mean time :3

got my set in a big box of stuff that me, Mike and S1mple went in on in Jan/Feb. Very pleased. Daytona CCE + S-Video + Racing Wheel feels like a pretty damn legit arcade experience.

S-video on Saturn does look great on my tv but I wouldn't pay the current going rate for it. Even with composite cables the picture looks great on HDTV. There used to be an ebay seller that lists new s-video cables for around $15-16 every couple of months so just keep an eye out.

That's one thing I've noticed with retro gaming on HDTVs. Composite has the potential to actually look better than S-Video or even RGB/YPbPr on a 1080p display.
