Fix sticky/bouncy buttons?

Post by SoltanGris »

Old Dreamcast VMU D-pad is getting flakey. Took it apart and used a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol where I could see contacts but no improvement. Heard about people with TV Remotes using foil tape but that seems a bit weird, wouldn't the glue be an insulator?

Any ideas. I want my original VMU to work like the new ones.

Thanks

If the rubber domes are ok for popping back, did you carefully clean the black carbon pads on them too?

They do seem to pop OK, I'll take another look at the pads. I went very easy the first time, maybe it needs more. Thanks.

I had a six button Genesis controller and a Super Nintendo controller with unresponsive buttons. What I did was to take apart both controllers and soak all the rubber and small plastic parts in water/dishwashing soap inside a sealed Tupperware container. I also cleaned off any gunk stuck to the pcb. Once I rinsed off and dried all the parts, I put them back together and they worked like new again.
