You guys mind including another fellow JP SNES RPG collector in that conversation? :)
Haha, no problem! The more the merrier! Though if it keeps going, we might just have to consider making a forum thread out of it.

Can I get in on this? I am "modding" my new SNES to play SFC games, and I would like to build a very small collection of "essential" SFC games.

Hopefully, I can also contribute to your SNES RPG discussion. I have not played many of them recently...but only because I was an RPG fanatic as a teenager and played though almost all of them when they were new!

I don't have any immediate interest in SFC carts, but I'm definitely curious too

Maybe that *is* a better idea. Back to work for me!

Whoops sorry guys - I wrote Ack a PM because I didn't want to "derail" or ramble too much in here.

Those who are looking to mod their SNES....

I don't recommend simply reaching in and tearing the tabs out... It won't look great and can leave behind sharp edges that will scratch the games.

Take the time to dissemble the console (same bit used to open Genesis games works for a SNES), then remove the tabs and file them down into nothing. Pretty decent guide here:

I'd like to read it, and I actually don't really have many SNES games, nor do I focus on collecting for the system. I just think it'd be really interesting to see what you guys consider to be the cream of the crop!

Yeah, I recommend the same. Opening up the console makes ripping the tabs out much easier and you can do a much better job. Every retro-gamer should have those two common security bits anyway, so if you don't already have them, here's an excuse to get them! After you rip the bulk of the tabs out with pliers, if you don't have a file to get the rest you could use a small chisel. That's what I used. A chisel is easier to use for this, in my opinion, because of the tight area (you need the space for the back and forth motion with a file).

I used an X-Acto knife to cut the tabs off my SNES, it was soft enough plastic that the knife cut through pretty cleanly.

Yeah, the two dollars that I spent on the essential two bits for games and consoles was one of the best two dollars that I've ever spent in this hobby ever.

People spending over 100 dollars on Dracula X? Ha! I got a Japanese version for 20! I have been getting some SFC RPGs but I don't read any Japanese. I'm thinking of finding someone to put translated boards in the ones that are translated...

Hey guys, more SNES games are starting to arrive from my latest round of shopping, though I think I'll wait a bit to have quite a bit to photograph in the next round. Of course, I could put up pictures of some of the other games in my collections on other consoles...but you guys aren't here for that, now are you?
