The 360 has spoiled me.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

yeh I have to admit the 'Themes' are a complete rip off - especially seems as how the dashboard's cluttered (admittedly very functional) GUI means you can hardly see the wallpapers anyway (unlike the PS3) - the new dashboard looks a lot cleaner though.

How do I get more portraits for my Xbox profile anyway? Do I have to download them off Live(I don't have a Live account so I actually don't know)?

Micropayments is an interesting stategy, though. I know I"ve sunk about $200 into Rock Band just on the DLC. Of course, Rock Band is a slightly poor example due to the fact that we'd have to pay for the tracks on the PC, for licensing reasons.

What really sucks is when the payments on Live creep into the PC world. Like Oblivion's addon content. Morrowind had several addons that Bethesda released for free, while Oblivion's cost the same as they did on Live (probably to be equitable, but it still sucks for us).

Yeah, but the benefit there is usually the mod community will end up making better stuff anyway. It's not necessarily stable, but definitely more interesting. Oblivion's mod community was huge.

yeah I was talking about the free maps for pc users being sold to 360 users. what's worst is that those maps are mostly user made. But the good thing is that orange box brings people back to the pc platform. That + steam.

ZeroAX wrote:I always wanted a 360 from the day it came out. BUT I usualy keep my consoles even when I've bought the next generation so I can play games that I missed, and in general replay old classics. The exception to this rule were my gameboys since every one was backwards compatible and recently the gamecube cause the wii is the first ninty console with BC.

BUT the 360 has 2 major flaws. First of all it's not compatible with xbox games. They started doing software emulation but later on decided to stop that and instead sell you the games you allready have (as xbox classics I think?) so you could play them on your new console. Now sony does that as well but at least ninty doesn't (vc is another thing, it's not like if they released adaptors for every single console anyone would buy them).

Second the RROD. MS can tell us all the crap it wants about it not being an issue anymore and xbots could hit their keyboard keys as hard as they can telling us that there is a 3 year guarantee but what happens after those 3 years huh? My mega drive is 12 years old and I still bring it out to play it. I have the sonic games on both mega collection plus on the ps2 and on the wii vc but I still prefer to bring out the mega drive to play them. Will I be able to do this with the 360?

No. Cause it's going to rrod sooner or later. And MS next console will not have BC as well. So as a retro gamer I'd be screwed.

And I hope steam adds achievments to all games. If they do that then LIVE won't have anything that steam doesn't (and steam also has mods :P).

I think MS should do a redisgn of the xbox hardware. Like the nes, snes, mega drive,psone,ps2 have had. Not only will it increase sales, they can fix the machines issues and peopel won't worry of them braking down
i'm keeping my gamecube for the GBA player. none have been made for Wii as of yet.

bobbynewmarkiii wrote:Going back to the original topic - No. I don't think the xbox is spoiling me - I'm currently really bored with Gears of War on Act II. I can't work out if I should sell it now and have done with it or bother to complete this boring game. This is just a month or so after having dragged myself through Bioshock - another game which completely sucked, although this is largely due to it falling massively short when compared to System Shock 2. I've got Ninja Gaiden 2, which was the reason I bought the box, and granted that it pretty decent, and have enjoyed Rez, Triggerheart Excelcia and Alien Hominid on download (none of which are curent gen games) and vaguely enjoying Mass Effect, but apart from these, I really can't see anything on the horizon to look forward to playing, or any reason to consider that this is a decent console compared to something like the Megadrive, Saturn or Dreamcast.

Whilst I'm on a moan, I'll mention that Resistance for PS3 and Zelda for wee were absolute rubbish as well.

Hope everyone's happy and all...

it's crap - apparently you cant actually customise your GLOBAL XBLA avatar, only one which added friends will see - i think if you put a jpeg or gif on a mem stick or cd-r you can set them as your avatar (for friends) or you can probably do it by logging into live.com.

I like my 360. I like having a collection of smaller games on my HDD and getting achievements. I also like logging on and seeing what other racketboy members are playing and what kind of achievements, etc they racked up on games we both have. I don't actually play online too much. I really should. I know that a bunch of us have some common games.

The d-pad does suck but I use a Hori arcade stick for a lot of my 2D gaming.
