Well-said. The iPad is still a quality tablet, and its value as a games machine is undeniable.ZenErik wrote:Right. It has even more pixels, I know. I haven't read any reviews so I have no idea how the color reproduction compares. But I do know that both the Nexus 10 and iPad w/ retina have enough pixels that you won't be able to see them at a normal viewing distance.lisalover1 wrote:Actually, the Nexus 10 has a bigger and sharper screen than the iPad's Retina Display. Plus, it's cheaper. That, and Android has come a long way in terms of usability; there's pretty much no significant area in which iOS trumps Android now (except games). But, Android is catching up in games, as well; Cave SHMUPS are on Google Play now, and Square Enix ported over the excellent FF remakes a while back.ZenErik wrote:I like the iPad for this. Retina screen. Not the mini. But if you're just looking to read then maybe a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 would be fine? Would save you some money too.
But if you're interested in stuff like CAVE shmups and Reflec Beat and more.. I'd recommend the iPad. I find the browsing experience better on an iPad too.Up close you can definitely still see them on the iPad, but who looks at their 10" tablet from 2-3 inches away?
I've owned my fair share of Android and iOS devices. Always find the iOS devices to run more smoothly with less apps crashing and a smoother browsing experience.. Though iOS is a bit plain. Stale and boring but works, I guess.
The last Android tablet I owned was a Transformer Pad. Pretty nice. Had a lot of backlight bleed. Both the default browser and Chrome were a bit sluggish compared to Safari. And crashed far more often. And were more easily bogged down with multiple tabs open. I'm sure the Nexus 10 is better in that regard. To be honest, my only major issue with Android is how all the end phones are too big. I just can't comfortably use them with one hand. It is even an issue with the iPhone 5 (3.5" screen felt better), but I must compromise or be left behind.
I thought I would like the 16:9 (or 16:10? I forget) display better than the 4:3 on the iPad. Turns out I prefer 4:3. While not optimal for videos, it seems right for a lot of other content. Like browsing. Comic/manga reading could go either way. But I also feel more comfortable holding an iPad. Feels more balanced.
All in all, you can't go wrong with either, and it comes down to personal preference. And if you are looking to save some cash then Android tablets have got you covered.

You want to buy an expensive tablet and then offset the cost by downloading torrents?Retrodude wrote:I want to download the Complete Marvel Chronology torrents (at least partially) and I'd like to be able to read the comics on a tablet so I don't have to sit in front of my computer, but I don't know anything about tablets.

I'll be perfectly honest. Most of the manga I read on my tablet are scanlations.CRTGAMER wrote:You want to buy an expensive tablet and then offset the cost by downloading torrents?Retrodude wrote:I want to download the Complete Marvel Chronology torrents (at least partially) and I'd like to be able to read the comics on a tablet so I don't have to sit in front of my computer, but I don't know anything about tablets.
Most series I have read I either already own physical copies of, are reading to decide whether to buy, or have never been officially translated. That doesn't make it right. But I feel okay about it.
Re: Best Tablet For Reading Digital Comics?
I'm interested in reading the older comics from the 70s and earlier and most of those have never been reprinted and probably never will be, so downloading torrents is the only way to read them. I'm sorry if you're offended by the idea, but if it weren't for filesharing, quite a few things would likely be lost forever and the CMC is only one notable example.CRTGAMER wrote:You want to buy an expensive tablet and then offset the cost by downloading torrents?

Downloading the torrents of several comics has gotten me to follow the actual monthly books, like Invincible, the new Ultimate Spider-man, The Walking Dead, etc.CRTGAMER wrote:Retrodude wrote:g torrents?

Re: Best Tablet For Reading Digital Comics?
Since we are talking comics.. Anyone have any recommendations? I am not really into super hero stuff but am interested in finally reading The Walking Dead. What else should I check out? Some of my favorite manga series are thrillers, about existentialism, real life-ish drama, etc.
Here are wikis for some of my favorite manga if that helps:

As for tablets, I discovered this one last weekend:
http://www.pengpod.com/
It is android based by default, and linux if you want it. But at just over $100 for the 7inch version, it is one of the cheapest on the market. $180ish for the 10inch. On top of that it has a microusb for charging/data transfer and a fullsize usb OTG port built in. So you can just transfer stuff off of jumpdrives. Reviews have been decent so far, but Id wait until there are a few more out there before making a decision.
Re: Best Tablet For Reading Digital Comics?
Thanks for the link. The only reason I want a tablet is for reading comics (plus all the old gaming magazines I've found on Retromags), so if this is the most affordable option, that's probably what I'll go for.
