Comic book movies you wanna see

Post by REPO Man »

I'll go first:

SUPERFRIENDS

Yes, I know this isn't technically a comic book, but it IS one of the first Justice League adaptations and has a wide fanbase. Now, my concept is basically, each film (there'd by three, but only two are figured out) would basically be like a live-action version of the same style of stories and plot-twists as the show, albeit stretched to about 90-100some minutes. Now, while the cartoon was rather campy by today's standards, the movie would be a little more serious but not as serious as comic book films today. Basically, it'd be a film for both people who have grown up with it (I used to watch it on Cartoon Network back in the '90s) and people who have never seen it but would love it anyway.

The first film would revolve around the recently-formed Superfriends fighting The Legion of Doom, assembled by Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor and various other villains. The Superfriends would consist of Superman (duh), Batman and Robin (Batman would be a bit more serious) (Robin would be reimagined as a teenage girl, like Juno if she could kick ass and wasn't preggers), Aquaman (not the lame-ass mullet-and-hook-hand version, but the real one), The Flash, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan, the original), Wonder Woman, and a reimagined (and renamed) version of Black Vulcan (like JLU's Static Shock).

The second would have the Superfriends going against Darkseid.

I'm toying around with a possible cast, which I'll put up some other time. So far, all I've got is Tom Welling as Superman, Adam Pascal (RENT, SLC Punk!) as Green Lantern, Bill Moseley as Bizarro, Idina Menzel (RENT, Wicked, Enchanted) as Wonder Woman, Sean McCourt as Lex Luthor (if you've seen this guy, you'd say the same thing), and Neve (Scream, Party of Five) and Christian Campbell (Trick, Ibid, Thank You and Good Night, Banshee) as Wonder Twins.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Yes, I realize there is already an already successful Spider-Man film series, but that has the same problem as many other Marvel films: they are based less on the real version and is instead an adaptation of the Ultimate universe.

This trilogy of films would instead be more true to the real Spider-Man, like the one I read in comics and saw on the TAS on Fox as a kid. For one, I will NEVER:

* Kill off a bad guy. I mean, if Green Goblin dies in the first film and Gwen Stacy is introduced in the third, then how does he kill her? And without Doc Ock, where's the Sinister Six? And if the Venom Symbiote, and it's host Eddie Brock, are vaporized, how do they go on to the Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety events?
* Do any of that moping stuff. While there will be a break from the action, that "break" won't take up about 70% of the film.
* Go against the comics, unless absolutely necessary
* TOUCH THE ULTIMATE CRAP WITH A 39 1/2 FOOT POLE!!!

Now, the first film would start with a battle between Spidey and a bunch of thugs, at which Spidey does the inner monologue that retells his origin (with a RADIOACTIVE SPIDER, not a GENETICALLY-ALTERED SPIDER), ending with rehashing six of his most deadly villains. Then flash to the soon members of the Sinister Six in prison. And to make matters worse, you've also got Hobgoblin AND Green Goblin (the latter appears later in the film). I'm still debating whether or not to incorporate the Kingpin and the three Spider-Slayers from the cartoon series.

The second would be an adaptation of the both the Symbiote Saga and Maximum Carnage, the latter encompassing the second half of the film. This film would also be much darker, and feature a few other villains.

And the third would be based on the Secret Wars, which in the film would be a composite of the Secret Wars and the Clone Wars.

I'm already toying around with a potential cast, which currently has Emile Hirsch as Peter Parker, Brittany Snow as Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, Michael Clark Duncan as The Kingpin, Anthony Rapp as Cletus Kasady/Carnage, and Stephen Dorff as Scorpion.

THE UNCANNY X-MEN

Nothing against the Bryan Singer films, but they are, for the most part, boring as hell. They are mostly just events leading up to the really great scenes. I mean, the first film only had TWO great sequences. And it's based on the Ultimate universe, whereas mine would be based on the REAL X-Men continuity.

No real plan is set into motion, but I know I definitely want to include:

* Night of the Sentinels (which, like the TAS, will be the first thing)
* Phoenix Saga + Dark Phoenix Saga (and with the REAL Phoenix, not that alter-ego crap)
* Age of Apocalypse (most likely the final entry in the trilogy, if not a stand-alone film)
* Phalanx Covenant

I'll have to do some more research.

AMERICAN VIRGIN

I love this series. For those who don't know, this series is about a youth minister whose girlfriend's death sets off a chain of events that test his faith and his resistance to temptation.

I'm thinking either Jake Gyllenhaal or Christian Campbell as Adam Chamberlain, the main character.

JTHM

I figure as live action, it could work if shot the right way and without using CGI for anything, except to aid in making the film look more like the comic.

Some people I've considered for the role of Nny are:

* Vincent Kartheiser
* Rami Malek (he played Kenny on The War at Home)
* DJ Qualls (no longer a valid choice)
* Christopher Mintz-Plasse (he's definitely skinny enough, but can be pull off the character? I say yes)

Superfriends? With no Wonder Twins? Heresy I say. Also, when you say female Robin, do you mean a la Dark Knight Returns? I thought it was a good job with a female Robin, have you gotten to read it?

When I heard about Hancock, I thought "Oh, now THAT is a great anti-hero." Seriously, why did they not make a movies about the coolest anti-hero of all time? I'm speaking about Lobo!

I dont read many comics but here are some i'd like.

The amazing screw-on head- It was made into a pilot episode for an animated series by Sci Fi but was never picked up. I thought it was really good. I'd love for something else to be made.

David Boring- From the same guy that did Ghost World and i really like that movie. I could see David Boring being a good movie. Although i fond this funny
During a panel discussion at the San Diego Comic-Con, Clowes stated that David Boring was his attempt to create a comic that could never be made into a film. However several parties have now expressed interest in a film adaptation.
Beyond Batman i dont really like many super hero comics.

Actually, the Wonder Twins, at the moment, will be debuting in a film that takes place between the first and second Superfriends films, and then join the Supefriends at the end and then appear in the second and third.

And when I say "female Robin", I mean an OC. Basically, she's gonna be like Dick Grayson with attitude and a sarcastic sense of humor. That and tits, but before you say anything, she's only 16.

And no, I haven't read "DKR" yet. Yeah, I suck.

Agreed, but that's the reality. Moore's own damn fault.

I would like to see some type of adaptation of Ex Machina, or Y The Last Man.

Marvel is dishing out origins movies left right and center...which ive always felt is the wrong way to go about it. why not just start off with the heroes knee deep in some shit, and instead of developing the characters and introducing us to them through their home life. just let us get to know them as theyre dealing with some heavy scenarios.
so i say, Marvel Civil War would be a good movie to make...itd probably have to be a 3-parter
