That's true; any 1000 can be hacked. But, most 2000s can be hacked, and the double RAM and smaller size are really big benefits.

Yeah, it does support a few extra homebrews. It also has the IR port, and you can use the system as a universal remote or something. Both are awesome, of course.

PSP-1000:
32MB RAM

I have a PSP-2001, which sports the same motherboard as a 3000 model. No permanent CFW can be installed, but PRO CFW works fine and it's still a great console.

If you don't care about the awesome metal chassis or nearly useless homebrew, an early 2000 model is probably the best. If you're a sucker for video quality, try out a 3000 for yourself. You'll just have to sit through 15 second loading times for PRO CFW.

When I complain about modern FPS or TPS games, people seem to assume that I just hate Western games or shooting games and tell me that I should be grateful for progress. "Progress" being...Halo 4?

I like shooting games, but the design work just keeps getting worse. I appreciate the graphics and sound design of these big productions, but I can't stand playing them. When will we get a big, single player FPS with maps worth exploring and pragmatic enemies? Or even a game where the player has agency?

So, the big question. If a remake of Unreal Gold were released alongside Unreal Engine 4, would it be a blockbuster?

I don't think you play enough recent FPS titles. I'd say stuff like the Borderlands games, Far Cry 2 (and FC3, from what I hear), the Metro series, and maybe even the Bioshock games would address the concerns you raise here. The Halo and Call of Duty titles? Not so much. Are they the limit of modern FPS? Not even close.

I did play some Far Cry 3. It was bizarre. Entertaining when friends were around, but I didn't enjoy it by myself. Maybe it was the incompetent enemies. When I waltzed into a camp occupied by a dozen enemies wielding rockets and assault rifles and defeated all of them unscathed, I kind of got turned off.

The Bioshock demo seemed pretty cool...

I have CFW loaded on my 1000 and 2000 series. I choose to use the 2000 series as my primary PSP for several reasons already stated. Better screen, longer battery life, slimmer, more RAM, etc. I haven't encountered compatibility issues with homebrew in a LONG time.
