Soul Calibur II for PS2 - 480p?

Post by Valkyrie-Favor »

I just started playing Soul Calibur II for PS2. Both Wikipedia and several forums mention this game having 480p support in the North American release, but I couldn't figure out how to activate it. There's no option in the menu, and nothing happened when I held down X and Triangle while the game started up. I'm stumped.

Not sure about this game in particular.
You need COMPONENT cables

Also keep those button pressed as soon as you turn on the ps2 for as long as possible.
Did you ever get other games to play in 480p before?
Does your tv support it?
Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

I know it's trivial on Xbox, but don't have it for PS2
FWIW, You're not the only one who's had problems with it.
You could try loading the GSM ELF into 480P first and then boot the game.

I do have an HDTV and Component cables. The problem is, I can't find the option for activating progressive scan mode. I've used other games, like Shadow of the Colossus, Outrun 2006, and Valkyrie Profile 2 in progressive scan.

I did try that, but nothing happened. Other games that natively support 480p don't seem to get along with GSM either.

Looks like all the online information was inaccurate. How could so many people get it so wrong for so long? It's beyond me.

The trick to getting this game to run in 480p is to wait until the game auto-loads from the memory card, then hold X and Triangle. A dialogue box asking you to change to progressive mode will appear.

I'm not sure, but it's possible that the reason I couldn't access this mode earlier is that I had no save on my memory card O_O

That is strange. According to the Soul Calibur II game manual, the standard x ∆ hold combo at powerup should do the trick. Out of curousity, try without a Memory card with player one controller plugged in. Hold the combo buttons, power on and keep holding until you get that 480p dialog prompt.
