Hey I know that area. I use to go to camp near Highlands and have rafted the Nantahala numerous times. One of Ack and I's good friends from college grew up in Brevard.Ack wrote:Haha, actually I live in Georgia, hence my curiosity!Retrodude wrote:Our store is in Cashiers, the Georgia store is in Clayton. While there are other ways of getting to Clayton without having to go through Cashiers, it's the same number of miles either way AFAIK.Ack wrote:Again, where is your store located? And where in Georgia is the other store located?

Re: Price Charting ads
Has anyone brought up why the prices of certain games go up in price and when? I know someone brought up SNES games a while back...
I've noticed that attention is payed to a game as soon as certain people bring attention to it. A good example of this is when Mike Matei made his top hidden gems videos for the NES and SNES. I was going to buy a copy of firepower 2000 from amazon for $4.01, but decided to wait until later. Then, Mike Matei's top SNES hidden gems video game out. The prices went up like crazy. It was up near 35 at the end of last summer, and even now it's still up at 15. This stuff needs to be taken into account. There are TONS of people out there who have older game systems and have the basics for said systems and watch the hell out of popular retro gaming personalities like the Angry Video Game Nerd and takes what he, and those associated with him as gospel and will go out of their way to buy up everything that they praise.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. When the DuckTales remake was announced, I was afraid that prices for that game would skyrocket, but thankfully, they've held steady (although I haven't checked in the last few days). There were a few listings that seemed like they were trying to drive the price up, but no one took the bait and other new listings that same week were no more than any of the pre-announcement listings. I would like to think that signals the start of a positive trend, but I highly doubt it.

it really has to do more with the subterranean race of lizard people who control the currency and so-called "free" market suddenly developing an interest in video games.Retrodude wrote:Exactly. The argument I've been trying to make all along is that things have gotten to this state entirely because of the speculators and gougers. It only took a few of them to get the ball rolling and once people saw that at least a few folks were actually dumb enough to pay those prices, everybody started doing it thinking they could get rich on this stuff. If you are the kind of person who tries to justify grossly and blatently overcharging with all the bogus "free market" "supply and demand" nonsense, you're part of the problem and need to get the *&%$ out.BoneSnapDeez wrote:The speculators and gougers are affecting prices too, of course.

I don't know what it was originally, but it seems to be staying at a solid 15-20 dollars. I'd pay that much. http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_sacat=0 ... ld=1&rt=ncRetrodude wrote:Yeah, I've noticed that too. You mean politicians? Nah, they're only interested in games if they can ban them, which they can't.aaron wrote:it really has to do more with the subterranean race of lizard people who control the currency and so-called "free" market suddenly developing an interest in video games.

Re: Price Charting ads
There's a few BINs for around $10, plus most of the auctions start at 99 cents, so that's not too bad. I was concerned that the few people trying to sell it for $30 and up all of a sudden would cause everyone else to go that high, but most people aren't, which is a good thing.soul_hacker wrote:I don't know what it was originally, but it seems to be staying at a solid 15-20 dollars. Yeah, the announcement for the HD remake didn't make as huge of a splash as I think some people thought it would. Mostly the people who care about this new game already know about this one. Hopefully this trend stays.

Capitalism can't have morals, it's not a sentient being. It's like asking for a moral rock, it doesn't make sense.
Games are more expensive than they were before because there's a much higher demand. Being a geek is cool now and everyone and their mother wants to own a Super Nintendo. Scott Pilgrim was huge and we got Wreck it Ralph.

Capitalism can't have morals, but capitalists can, and because some of them actually do, there is no excuse for the ones who don't. If the price spike is because of the sudden interest from folks who previously didn't care, as you say, then the sellers are just taking advantage of people who don't know better. That's wrong.General_Norris wrote:Capitalism can't have morals, it's not a sentient being. It's like asking for a moral rock, it doesn't make sense.
