They don't air pilots at 2 am. Cartoon Network isn't on at 2 am. That's Adult Swim, which operates as a second network. The two happen to appear on the same channel, but they act as separate entities. Cartoon Network is successful, though not hugely so. But their age range is younger and meant to tap off around high school age or so, where Adult Swim kicks in. While Cartoon Network has been making a push for a somewhat older audience in their teenage years with shows like Adventure Time and Regular Show, they are most successful with kids ranging 6-12.Luke wrote:I'm with Dish on this one.
Not saying CN puts out bad shows, it's that they don't put out shows that I have any interest in. After Space Ghost Coast to Coast, nothing has lured me in. And hey, CN may not be a cash cow, but surely they are a profitable network. Although I don't agree with some of their practices (why air a pilot at 2am?) they seem to know their demo well.
Now if Adult Swim were expanded to 24 hours, they would be the most successful network on television. Ad sales for them are booked up to a year in advance, and only that far because they refuse to book beyond a year. They also don't have the advertising issues and FCC regulations that Cartoon Network faces because they are depicted as programming for an adult audience, so a lot of the hurdles Cartoon Network faces, Adult Swim does not have to contend with whatsoever.
