Best Tablet For Reading Digital Comics?
Best Tablet For Reading Digital Comics?
Hey guys! I need a recommendation. I want to download the Complete Marvel Chronology torrents (at least partially) and I'd like to be able to read the comics on a tablet so I don't have to sit in front of my computer, but I don't know anything about tablets. Are there any that can read cbr/cbz files and if so, what's the best one I could get for the least amount of money?
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

The iPad is wonderful for this. And the app I use is called ComicZeal.

I use a (relatively) cheap $200 Nexus 7 and there's are a few .cbr readers on the app store, I use "A Comic Viewer" myself, everything fits fine on the 7'' screen and you can always zoom in and out if you can't read the smaller text bubbles.
The text size hasn't been an issue with me so far, May get a better looking full page on a 10 incher, but I think the aspect of the comic pages better fits the 16:10 and 16:9 wide screen ratio of Android devices than iOS's 4:3 screen.

I am curious about this aswell. Most the people I know who do this use touch screen pcs with 14inch screens, but those are heavy and kinda awkward. Id love to reread the Scrooge McDucks and not risk damaging my uncles books.
Edit:
Gocomics.com was suggested to me if you want strips emailed to you daily. Something you might want if you like funnies and have a strict firewall at work (cough cough). And yes, it lets you pick the series you want mailed to you. I just discovered it today and will be signing up tonight. Overboard and BC, weve gotta lot of catching up to do...

I have both an iPad 2 and a Nexus 7. I use the Nexus much more when I read comics. Despite the screen being smaller, the aspect ratio is better and the lighter weight/smaller size makes it more comfortable to use. The 7 inch screen is big enough to read most comics without any problem. I hardly ever use the zoom function.
Mostly harmless

I use the nexus 7 as well.
I think it just boils down to the app you use.
There are free apps and I guess there are ones you pay for. My cheap ass went for the free one.
Its okay. Its called perfect viewer. you have to touch certain areas to make it go to the next page.
Its some thing you have to get used to.
One downside is that since I use the nexus 7, theres no external storage. so I have to use the usb cable to transfer files from another computer.

A 10inch android tablet is going to be your best bet. As mentioned already the 16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio is better suited for utilizing the entire screen for a page. At 10 inches you won't need to zoom to read anything. Any android tablet is going to be able to read comics because there are many free cbr/cbz readers in the play store.
I actually do all my comic reading on my acer w500 which was originally a windows 7 tablet I upgraded to 8. There are also free comic readers for w8. Android will still be your cheapest option.

I like the iPad for this. Retina screen. Not the mini. But if you're just looking to read then maybe a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 would be fine? Would save you some money too.
But if you're interested in stuff like CAVE shmups and Reflec Beat and more.. I'd recommend the iPad. I find the browsing experience better on an iPad too.

Actually, the Nexus 10 has a bigger and sharper screen than the iPad's Retina Display. Plus, it's cheaper. That, and Android has come a long way in terms of usability; there's pretty much no significant area in which iOS trumps Android now (except games). But, Android is catching up in games, as well; Cave SHMUPS are on Google Play now, and Square Enix ported over the excellent FF remakes a while back.

Right. It has even more pixels, I know. I haven't read any reviews so I have no idea how the color reproduction compares. But I do know that both the Nexus 10 and iPad w/ retina have enough pixels that you won't be able to see them at a normal viewing distance.

I've owned my fair share of Android and iOS devices. Always find the iOS devices to run more smoothly with less apps crashing and a smoother browsing experience.. Though iOS is a bit plain. Stale and boring but works, I guess.
The last Android tablet I owned was a Transformer Pad. Pretty nice. Had a lot of backlight bleed. Both the default browser and Chrome were a bit sluggish compared to Safari. And crashed far more often. And were more easily bogged down with multiple tabs open. I'm sure the Nexus 10 is better in that regard. To be honest, my only major issue with Android is how all the high end phones are too big. I just can't comfortably use them with one hand. It is even an issue with the iPhone 5 (3.5" screen felt better), but I must compromise or be left behind.
I thought I would like the 16:9 (or 16:10? I forget) display better than the 4:3 on the iPad. Turns out I prefer 4:3. While not optimal for videos, it seems right for a lot of other content. Like browsing. Comic/manga reading could go either way. But I also feel more comfortable holding an iPad. Feels more balanced.
All in all, you can't go wrong with either, and it comes down to personal preference. And if you are looking to save some cash then Android tablets have got you covered.
