Specialized PC game controls - Wii-Mote?

Post by Anapan »

I just received a 3 foot switch for playing Keyboard&Mouse PC games - it works great on Terraria so-far. I blamed the controls for losing a boss battle and found a solution for quick healing and weapon swapping. I was wondering what other people here are using (gaming mice, etc) to make their gaming easier for them.

Do you have that one you linked too? If so does it play nice in 7 and how loud are the pedals? I use to have a Beatmania styled controller for my PC solely for foot controls (mostly macros) but work frowned upon it after a upper management transition. That should be pretty enough to hide under my desk and disappear - even if I have three of them.

At home, I used buttons for video editing and for controls I needed often and couldnt map to keys - like counter measures in a flight sim.

Yes, that's the one I got. I just tried it on Windows 7 (I use XP) and it's working fine there too. It does make a plasticky clack when a pedal is fully depressed (think tupperware against a cutting board..?) but a small rubber sticky from a dollar store (like for cubboards to close silently) would get rid of that easily.
It appears they're available cheaper on the manufacturer's website, and in metal housing as well (tho probably no free shipping).

I'm enjoying it enough that I'm considdering getting another as someone on DX said multiple pedals can function together.

I also just realized you can only set up the functions each pedal executes in windows (software needs .NET Framework), but it retains those settings internally as it is a standard HID Device - that means it'll work on consoles that have a USB Port. Awesome!

Joy2key and these would be awesome. But those metal ones are tempting, though not for the price of shipping. They are double the price for shipping.

How big is the device you bought? Can you take a picture of it compared to say a DVD case? Specifically how big are the pedals.

So, nobody has one of those gaming mice with a keyboard-like button setup? No touch-pad on the bottom of your tower's keyboard? What about Wii-Motes? Do those actually work to play FPS games on your PC with the right setup?

I got this jog / shuttle wheel to use for video editing.

It's also lots for fun for pong, breakout, tempest, and other spinner arcade titles.

I use a Hori 360 fight stick to play street fighter 4 on my computer. Does that count?

If your pc has bluetooth, a wiimote with classic controller would be okay for a FPS.

Great Thread! I always like discovering a new way to play a game!

I use an Art Tablet sometimes for Puzzle and Adventure games that require a Mouse pointer. The tablet allows an instantaneous placement of the cursor anywhere on the screen. Either a Wacom or UDraw with the right utility programs allows control of various games.

Your Foot Switch is certainly a different approach, I was thinking what game would work well with it. The foot won't be as quick as fingers on the keyboard, so something that does not need a very rapid response and would free the hands from mashing three different buttons. Maybe a supplement with a Flight Stick to PC Mech Style games such as the XBox Steel Battalion? The Weapons and Healing select you came up with is a great option. Since the Foot Switch is digital, it rules out throttle control for driving or rudder control for flying games. I thought of an older Arcade game that might work well, a different style to an old classic.

Missile Command
Get the Mame version that controls the three missile launchers with separate fire buttons. Hook up a Trakball and launch the missiles with your feet! :D

Okay how about this with the foot switch?

Track and Field
Any of the joystick waggle games to make a running person run faster. It would have to set to easy mode, run with your feet tapping. This would be silly, but also might be a good party game for laughs after a few beers.

Nice! I am interesting in this. Does the knob turn like a production video shuttle editing knob with a solid slowness when let go or can it free wheel like spinning a coin on the table?
