PSP PSX Saves to PC?

Post by brunoafh »

I was playing a PSX rom on my PSP but there is a certain unskippable FMV sequence that makes it hang every time and now I can't progress. So I'm wondering if there is any way I can get my save off the PSP memory card and on to a PC? I really don't want to start the game over again.

Sure, just plug your PSP into your PC via USB and browse it as a mass storage device.

You can convert that save to work with a PC emulator too. Use a free program called "memcard rex." Converting it back is a little more trouble, though.

If I remember right (haven't done it in awhile) you'll need a utility called Mem Card Rex to convert the save from the PSP to ePSXe format. Once you get past the freeze-up point in the game using ePSXe, you'll need to install CWCheat onto your PSP, copy the savegame file from epsxe onto the PSP's memory card in the ms0:/seplugins/cwcheat/ (save file must be renamed to the PSX game's internal ID number - SCUS_#####-0.mcr). When you're back inside the PS1 game on your PSP, activate CWCheat, and use it's memory card handling function to import the savegame to your PSP.

I was able to get my save off the PSP memory card and get past the freeze point on epsxe, but I'm having trouble with cwcheat. I'm running CFW 6.60 Pro-B10, and I enabled it under plugins in the recovery menu, but holding select doesn't bring up any menus in-game?

just out of curiosity what game is it? I kept having that same problem with Policenauts. I ended up just getting another copy and it didn't have the same problem.

It's Super Robot Taisen Alpha Gaiden... I just tried getting CWCheat to launch in a PSP game and it worked, but it won't appear during the PS1 game. Also I didn't see any options for memory card handling when I did get the menu to launch.

Sorry to leave you hanging. I'll try the procedure on my Phat and Slim and see if I can guide you through it.
Probably not relevant, but what model of PSP, which CFW and which version of CWCheat are you using?

I was able to get it to work, my issue was that I wasn't using cwcheatpops, which apparently is necessary for using cwcheat with PSX games. Thanks for the help.
