Since my Goldeneye comment was such a hit, it's time to make a sequel.

Ocarina of Time is boring.

Popular opinion:

I love this thread. And I think dsh's post about hating its existence was actually a genius, veiled attempt at securing the most unpopular opinion possible within it. Mind blown, dsh wins.

Unpopular opinions that build off of previous conversations:

-- I think the controls in the TPS Resident Evil games are brilliant and intuitive (once you pass the initial learning curve).

-- I consider "casual gaming" to be as equally legitimate a play style as any other. Someone else mentioned this a zillion pages back. High-five to whoever it was.

the idea that casual gaming is any less than core gaming is mindboggling to me.

a lot of the games that were popular in the past, would be considered "casual games" if they were made today.

not to mention it is all relative, most AAA single player campaigns seem casual to someone who plays fighting games and RTS on a semi-competitive level. Don't see anyone calling Assassin's Creed casual.

I agree 100%. I'm sure it was hardware/physical media limitations but the world of OoT was empty - especially compared to the game world of ALttP on the SNES. In that game there was some secret or character to interact with at almost every turn, many of them having no connection to the main plot of the game. They were just there to make the world interesting and feel alive, to give the player reason to explore the map.

In my opinion the best 3D Zelda game was Oblivion.

There, I said it.
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch

EDIT: And I do believe I may have just provided the least popular opinion of all
Nerds and Bros can never get along. :P
I see you guys never saw the Revenge of the Nerds trilogy.

I also noted that in one of my posts a few pages back...It was a very good move, and I only wish that I had thought of doing it first!

If I recall correctly, the "tank" controls and constantly shifting camera angles in those games was a conscious design choice. The developers wanted the player to feel "helpless" whenever they wer being attacked by a zombie. Accordingly, I also think that the control scheme in those games was brilliant (but not intuitive).

Also...the best 3D Zelda game is - without a doubt - Okami.

I have these two friends who are brothers, who say this when ever they get the chance. Pisses off one of my friends who is a huge Nintendo and Zelda fan.

And yeah, the tank controls are not intuitive by nature. Still really like them in regards to RE1, RE0 and the REmake.

Your Nintendo-loving friend should spend some time with Okami. It is fucking awesome.

Fun Fact: Okamiden (NDS) is better than both LoZ:Phantom Hourglass (NDS) and LoZ: Spirit Tracks (NDS)!

Jaded oldschool gamers do. There's many people who hate pretty much all modern AAA games for that reason (lack of challenge&dumbing down+streamlining).
I think the difference is that regular and even hardcore gamers play those games for story/experience/to keep up with the times and it's considered OK as long as it's not the only type of game you play. Casuals games have a stigma since they don't have the challenge nor do they tell stories/offer spectacles like AAA games.

That's like saying that FF6 is horrible because X-2 and XIII are. Earlier Elder Scrolls games are also much better than the modern ones, although the difference isn't as stark as between isometric and 3D Fallout games.

Correct. And we can see what happened to the series once it got rid of the tank controls. Although there was more to the athmosphere of the original games than just the "awkward" gameplay that sets those games apart from modern Resident Evil games, the control scheme is a large part of that experience.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

These are more questions than opinions, but they relate to opinions that some other people have posted.

Firstly, how come in a series as long running and with as many games as Final Fantasy people complain when the newest games are "too similar?" I mean, after roughly 20 years and 13 main entries wouldn't you want it to be mixed up a little to avoid stagnation in the brand?

Second, how in the hell can anyone say the modern Fallout games are FPS's, or even FPS's "pretending" to be RPG'S? Have you tried playing those games like a pure shooter? I'm guessing not, cause it doesn't work.
