I've met more people who love Final Fantasy X-2 than people who love FFVIII.
I prefer VIII over X-2
Haha.. I actually think X-2's a pretty good game, I don't like the Charlies Angels theme much but I adore the battle system in it, probably one of my favorites.

The 2600 didn't get that name until much later, but we all use it. PSX, no matter who first came up with it, is a damn terrible abbreviation aand no longer ought to be used when there's a better, clearer alternative.

Does anyone casually saying "psx" actually mean the DVR? That's a fairly obscure piece of hardware and I'd think anybody actually referring to that would specify that they mean the DVR.

I have a playstation magazine from 2004 and it has "PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP/PSX" in it's cover (many game magazines mention what platforms they review for in the cover like that). PSX had just been launched in Japan and both PSP and PS3 were still just concepts, PS3 had the banana controller.

Anyways I agree that people shouldn't use the term "PSX" (nor oXbox).

Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

At least if I say "I was playing my oXbox earlier" nobody will ask "Do you mean the 360?"

I couldn't disagree more, but I suppose that's the point of this thread. Launching a console with a survival horror entry in their marquee franchise?
Huh? Is this a reference to Luigi's Mansion?
Making a cel-shaded and cartoony Zelda with hardly any land in the game?
Aka, they just made another Zelda? Windwaker plays like any other Zelda, let's be real here. I mean the previous console Zelda was Majoras Mask which was a much further step from the formula if you ask me.
Pouring a bunch of marketing money into bringing a life simulator to the west?
Because there were no life simulators in the west before?
Making the focus of the next Mario game NOT be about strictly platforming?
What game was this? Certainly not Mario Sunshine. And most Mario games are not platformers by the way.
Trying to make the RTS genre work on a console, while marketing the genre to younger audiences?
It really seems like you're just mixing words to make the things sound crazier than it is. It is not like Pikmin is anything like Starcraft.
Making one of their biggest platforming series into an FPS?
As opposed to what, a 2D platformer during the 128 bit gen?

And Metroid was a shooter before, regardless if it was platform based. All they did was make it 3D. No different than what nearly every 2D franchise went through. I don't see anyone soiling themselves because Sonic went 3D.

In the end, Metroid Prime is action adventure based just like the 2D metroids. The only reason why people were scared is because FPS usually correlates with mindless action.
I don't know about you, but if that isn't the very definition of risk, I don't know what is.
What? All you did was literally just name things that MAY be interpreted as odd (and honestly most of them aren't. And things like Luigi's Mansion are literally just called Luigi's mansion for brand name. Same thing with Metroid essentially).

I mean what about all the things that they did that was wasn't risky? Realistically, you could name any console and I could add a bunch of rhetorical questions that make it seem like that console took a major risk. I could manipulate words to make the Xbox and PS2 seem like the craziest thing also. I'm sorry, but no Windwaker is not an idea of an unique or risky game, that is a slap to the face to games that actually are.

The Gamecube was Nintendo's space to branch out and try new things in an attempt to make up for a less-than-successful last generation. It was essentially Nintendo's Dreamcast, at least in terms of software mentality.
The existence of the Dreamcast shows how safe the Gamecube is. Compare the marque games for the Dreamcast to the Gamecube, and one is a lot more zaney than the other. The n64 was a much greater step forward than the Gamecube, the GC was just natural progression from the 64.

All those things that you just tried to hype up to make the Gamecube look crazy would look silly compared to the Dreamcast's library, or even the Saturns. The GC was not the left field console of its generation.

It's not to say that it doesn't have its share of original IPs, but what decent console doesn't?

People saying "anyways" instead of "anyway", is more annoying than "PSX" instead of "PlayStation"

Is this sarcasm, a knock at how many non-platformer spinoffs there are now, or just an assertion that 3D platformers (at least in the formula that Mario 64 popularized) aren't true platformers?

I blame media and native speakers. I've heard the word being used in plural on so many occasions that it's become an ingraned part of my vocabulary. I did try to check once which one is correct, and I was informed that "anyways" is "OK in USA and Canada". Not sure if that's true or not, but anyways sounds more natural to me. Again, I blame the media influence.
Why would anyone use "PlayStation" when you can use "PS1"? PS1->PS2->PS3, logical and efficient. PlayStation=11 letters. PS1=3 letters, just as many as in "PSX".
