Raiiban's Game Room (8/7 Update: Living Room setup)

Hey all, I just redid my small game room a few weeks ago and I think I've finished tweaking it for now and making sure it won't fall apart on me. I've got two rooms in my house with gaming setups, the dedicated room which has been dubbed Valhalla by my friends has my older collection from the Dreamcast on back, and the more modern games, PS2 and newer reside in my living room with an HD setup. All pics can be clicked for a larger resolution.

Dreamcast is VGA -> Component output box.

Everything but the DC hooks into that old JVC powered switch. Above all that is my Sakura Wars Japanese Dreamcast, I just swap the DC's when I want to play a Japanese region game.


Most of the games here are in universal cases with artwork to look like the original case, some of them I took liberties on like the Megaman series.


The Lei Lei/Hsein-ko stick is for DC and the Noel is for 360/PC.


The centerpiece to my collection, I won't take credit for making this, I purchased it from someone who had to give it up and sacrifice his game room for a new family addition on the way.

I don't actually own Megaman X3 or Lufia 2, but they're on my list of things I definitely will own when I can find a good enough deal.




All items pictured above are complete with inserts, the Secret of Mana box is in REALLY bad shape though, the map literally came apart when I took it out so I didn't want to mess with it any further.

The custom UGC stuff really does look nice, but it kinda turns into a headache when you find yourself having to whip up covers yourself for all those games that don't have covers yet. Plus there's the printing costs involved...

Close, mine's a 36'' Trinitron, not sure of the exact model number, it doesn't have the Wega branding on it anywhere so I think it's a bit older than that line.

Yeah they can be a pain if you can't find the covers pre-made or in the style that you want. But the printing costs I never found to be that bad, I can get really nice looking prints at Staples for just 48 cents a page, I know it adds up but it's still a bit cheaper than the UGCs themselves, even if you order a bulk 100 pack.

I always wait until I have 20 or 30 of them to do, then make a weekend project out of it to get them done. Actually I think I'm about due for a run...

Would you recommend Panzer Dragoon Saga? What it's like anyways? You said it's one of your favorite games. I know it's one of those expensive Saturn games that gets you respect among collectors so I have an intrest in picking it up, but if it's just a run of the mill RPG, I'm not so sure.

Those Japanese games are from the Sakura Taisen/Wars series, they're adventure games with some SRPG battles mixed in, I wouldn't call them date sims but, well it is an adventure game from Japan with a large female cast.

Panzer Dragoon Saga was, well still is, a very innovative RPG. I have using the word innovative because I feel like it gets tossed around too often now, but there really isn't anything else like it. It takes the on-rails shooting experience from other Panzer Dragoon games and somehow adapts it into an RPG battle system that's both unique and fun. Although they look dated now, the CG cut-scenes are plentiful and pretty good looking for the time, the total length of the game is about 15-20 hours, and everything's very balanced to not need grinding, even though the battle systems so fun you might want to grind a bit just to play with it more.

All in all it's a very competent and solid RPG that does things that no games have done before or since, it's a damn crime that it's never gotten any ports. I've heard in various places that Sega may have lost the source code to it, but that's just rumor. It's really deserving of a play at the very least, and it works just fine in SSF if you wanted to give it a try before plunking down a large sum of money on it.
