Together Retro: Half-Life

Post by noiseredux »

alright well April is officially tomorrow and all but... still. Who's playing Half-Life? This is actually one of my most anticipated months this year. I'm playing through the leaked Dreamcast version which I started back in August, but I'm starting over fresh for this month as I never got that far before.

I beat it last year. I could probably run through it again pretty quickly. We'll see.

Man, April already? I wanted to get into this one after playing through both of the Portal games, but I still don't have a way of burning game images in order to play the DC version.

How's it run on the DC, and are you playing the standard game, or one of the hacked/custom versions?

it's got a lot of load screens, but they don't bother me. It is really impressive seeing this run on DC though. I'm just playing the regular game.

I honestly think I've over-replayed this game, I can never manage to finish it thesedays and always get bored at some point. Especially the train tracks part, since it goes on for what feels like forever.

lol

Oh man, that part kills me.

Also, call me crazy, I love the Xen world.

I replayed this last year, been meaning to go through it again since I never played Half Life 2.

I've also had Blue Shift lying around on my computer for ages and I'm really curious to how it is. Being Barney would rock.

I've got to figure out what to play this on. I'm thinking on my PII with Voodoo II SLI to be most period accurate. Half-Life didn't support Glide, but the OpenGL mode should work. This will also give me an excuse to buy a Celeron 300A for the thing, and see if I can overclock it to 450.

Alternatives would be on a modern PC via Wine, which has worked perfectly for years. Or the Dreamcast version, which would be nice to check out.
