Gaming Goals:

1. All the games I haven't beaten from this generation, finish 'em.
2. Go through the Yakuza Series, starting from the beginning.
3. Beat some shmups and beat-em ups.

Collection Goals:

1. Limit the new games I pick up to a few select titles in the year.
2. Slim down some of my older titles and stuff I don't play. Trade 'em, sell 'em, to pick up childhood greats.
3. Get some of the cooler, unique titles for the Wii. Let's tap was a hit with the girlfriend, so other titles like that might be worthwhile.
4. Replace my 72 pin or do other things to fix my NES and carts.

Key word noise try to not add to much.

There were 2-3 games from the video I forgot that I needed, but they shouldnt be more than $10 a piece so we werent counting those.

Dude, these are incredibly cheap right now since they got a reprint (along with the Fatal Frame trilogy). Heck, wow they're even down from what I paid for them a few months back ($20 each or so), they're like $15 now.

The two Devil Summoner games look ridiculously expensive still though, but yeah Nocturne, and Digital Devil Saga 1-2 are very cheap at the moment. Grab them while you can!

Keep in mind my other goal:
- I've created a new rule for myself to not purchase any new title until I've beaten at least 3 unfinished games in my backlog. That's pretty much the only effective way I could think of to be motivated to beat my games. I have a bad habit of playing half a game, putting it down, and playing a different game.
So I have to beat at least 9 games before I could buy Nocturne and DDS1/2.

Despite them being cheap I can't break one of my gaming goals on the first day! And the reprints have been out for a while. I'm not really too afraid of them running out at the moment.

I'll try to beat some shorter games though.

And, yes, those two Devil Summoner games are not cheap. I haven't checked in a while, but the last time I looked at Raidou kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army it was about $80 used. Insane. I may burn a disc later to see if the game is worth the asking price. I don't like $80 mistakes.

Don't you love it when I remind everyone that a quarter of the year has gone by? Anyone fancy updating their progress?
Gaming
- Try to get 3 or less unfinished games per system on my backloggery by my birthday (December 24th).
Some minimal progress, but have actually mainly been focused on other consoles with less unbeaten games. Oops.

- Beat at least 2 Final Fantasy games in my collection.
Not yet, unless you count FF Tactics, which I didn't intend to. Hoping to get one cleared in this years summer marathon.

- Beat 50% or more Together Retro games out of the months I participate in.
I haven't actually participated in any yet, unless you count the rather late participation in Bubble Bobble, which I haven't finished yet.

- Beat a game on every console I own.
So far: 3DS, DS, GBC, GB, Wii U, Wii, N64, PSP. Still to go: GBA, Pokemon Mini, Virtual Boy, Gamecube, SNES, NES, Dreamcast, Saturn, Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear, PS2, PS1, NGPC, TG16, XBox, 3DO, PC. 8 down, 18 to go.

- Beat at least half of the games left on my Games Not Beaten 2012 list at the end of December 2012.
Beaten:FF Tactics: War of the Lions, Paper Mario 3DS, Mario Tennis Open, NSMB2. Not Beaten: Loco Roco, Catrap, Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire, Metroid Prime 3. Sold: Scribblenauts. Kinda 50/50 on this - I have beaten 4 of 9 and sold a 5th, but actually, they were all games I'd only not finished because i'd started them in december. Most of my actual pile of shame still stands.

Collecting
- Limit myself to 3 new games per month maximum - with exceptions: If I buy a new system that comes bundled with games, they don't count to that months total, and games bought for Together Retro don't count either. The idea here is to make myself buy the games I really want that may cost a little more, by buying less random crap!
Eh, it was going OK until this month, when I got 10 new games. However, I wouldn't be doing quite as badly without all the free downloads and stuff that keep going up on the various download services, so I dont feel TOO guilty here.

- Buy at least 1 game for each system I didn't buy a game for this year (Gamecube, Saturn, 3DO, NGPC, Turbografx, Pokémon Mini, Virtual Boy)
Progress: Absolutely zero games bought for any of these consoles. Whoops. I haven't really had a lot of spare cash floating around though, and a lot of the games I want for these systems aren't exactly cheap.

- Focus more on handheld games over console purchases (50% or more handheld for new purchases in 2013)
I reckon I'm probably about on Par for this one, although not how I expected - most of my purchases this year are digital, whereas I intended to focus on portables to take advantage of lower physical PSP and DS prices.

- Buy a Wii U
Well, at least I've been successful in one mission this year - the one where I spend too much money I don't have

Yeah, sure.

I'll just steal your format.
AppleQueso wrote:most of my goals here are kinda rambling, probably won't hit all of these but I'm definitely gonna try:

Libraries:
-build up the collections of my most currently neglected systems. I have only a handful of games for Game Boy (currently only 5 GB, 2 GBC, and 4 GBA), Turbo Grafx (6), and Sega Master System (7) right now and want to build those up.
Haven't even tried here.
-To a lesser extent, I'd like to build up my Atari 2600 (13), Saturn (11) and Dreamcast (10) collections as well.
Haven't done anything here either!
-Most of the popular Wii titles should start really dropping in price soon, so I'd like to jump on that and built up a better Wii library while the prices are good.
Still nothin!

Hardware
-Get a new Sega CD and built a modest library for that. I briefly had one, but got rid of it for some reason.
Got the Sega CD. Have like two games for it, so I'm kinda halfway there?
-Hori Gamecube GBPlayer controller.
Nope.
-Get a pong console. Maybe a Telstar or something.
Did get a Pong console, and it actually ended up being a Telstar.
-Get more second generation consoles and built up some modest libraries for them. Colecovision, Intelllivision, Odyssey2, Vectrex, whatever.
Nothing
-Virtual Boy, perhaps?
Zilch
-Master System Light Phaser. How else am I going to play Safari Hunt and Rescue Mission?
Zip
-More N64 controllers. I only have one!
Nada

Misc
-Continue doing what I've been doing with building up the Nintendo side of my library.
Kinda.
-Finish getting the first two or three years or so of Nintendo Power.
Nothing to see here.
-Try and finish re-building my childhood Game Boy, N64, SNES, and NES libraries. I'm pretty close to this one.
Kinda sorta.
-Work more on my NES game. See if I can get the engine solidly built and maybe some test levels and a solid design document put together.
So far I've got scrolling sorta half working, but the collision map updates are broken.
-See more games that I start through to the end. I'm not concerned too much about backlogs, but I'd like to actually regularly finish the games I start.
I guess I've been doing this, but other than plowing through all those MGS games a while back I haven't gotten too far in actually completing things.

Ack wrote:Hmm...guess I should sit down and set up some specific goals for my hobby in 2013.

COLLECTING

-Reach 225 games for my SNES collection.

PLAYING

-Reach 300 completed games in my collection.
Well, I currently have 316 games marked completed, so that goal is finished. As for collecting, I am now at 216 out of my goal for 225, so well on course. However, I have a new goal now. Backloggery tracks the Top 10 stats for each console, and I have fewer than 20 games to go to end up on the list for most completed SNES games. So I have been hammering away at SNES games this year and plan to continue to do so. I want on that list!

1. Beat Final Fantasy VI. I started it on my Wii, but I want to actually finish what many consider to be the best in the series.

2. Get an internship at S2 Games over the summer. I applied for an unpaid internship position over the summer at S2 Games (The studio that made the Savage series and Heroes of Newerth), who just so happens to have an office in Kalamazoo. Wish me luck!

3. Beat another Sega Saturn RPG. I have a personal goal to beat at least one Sega Saturn RPG every year. So far, I have beaten Magic Knight Rayearth, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Shining Wisdom. This year, I'm aiming to beat either Dragon Force or Shining Force III.

4. Beef up my Master System collection. I have pretty much gotten every common MS game released in North America, and I have been having trouble coming across cheap European MS games due to shipping costs.

Quarter a way through already? Well, well, well...
o.pwuaioc wrote:Collecting goals:

More Genesis games!
Just a couple more, nothing to be proud of.
Get either a Wii or DS this year.
I got both!
Get more Nintendo Power mags.
I did! And issue #1!

Playing goals:

Play every SOTM month.
I skipped on the MAME title this month, and probably won't do Crimzon Clover either.
Play every TR month (except January when I'm super busy).
I played a bit of each game, but again nothing to boast of.
Get through at least 2 PS1 RPGs and 2 SNES RPGs.
Beat FFIV again, but, eh, I'm not sure that counts. I'll do this one for sure.
