Thoughts/reviews on Wii emulators?
Thinking of trying out a few emulators for my soft modded wii after playing around with some SNES roms.
Do emulators for PC Engine/CD, Sega CD, Neo Geo (console or handheld) and Atari 2600/Intellivison era work well?
I assume Saturn doesn't run too well?

Re: Thoughts/reviews on Wii emulators?
PSX/N64 and down work really well. Dont bother with the Saturn emulator it has not been updated in years. I use:
FCE Ultra GX
Genesis Plus
Wii2600
Wii7800
Wii64
WiiSX
SNES 9x GX
Hugo Wii
Visual Boy Advance GX
Ive had issues with random roms *on them (mostly imports), but overall the experience has been as good as using them on the pc
Sega CD works well in the newer versions of Gens Plus, but I have not updated. A friend of mine beat most of Snatcher on it and a bit of Popful Mail though.
*this ofcourse is not counting the 64 and PSX emulators.
Edit:
Now that I think about it the only two roms I had any major issues with was Battle Jockey and Battle Cross - both SFC games. Battle Jockey was a green screen and Battle Cross would load but the character sprites were invisible.

Re: Thoughts/reviews on Wii emulators?
I use MednaFen for Turbo CD games, and so far I have not found any incompatible games. The only game I recall not working was the HuCard of Air Zonk. However, this game is on the VC, so not much of a loss there.
The newest GenPlus supports the Sega CD library 100%
I don't like the N64 emlator much, I just play the games available on the VC. Those VC N64 games look and work great though (Aside Bomberman Hero, which I could never get to save)
Saturn and PSX aren't even worth touching at the moment.

I have a question, can you guys run roms from an external harddrive or do I have to keep using an SD card?

I used Retroarch for CPS1, CPS2, Neogeo and Arcade emulation, most games run like a charm and you can tweak a lot of settings, you can even run the games at their original resolutions.

Re: Thoughts/reviews on Wii emulators?
I'll throw in another plug for WiiMednafen. It plays all my CD games like a champ. The emulation is near flawless compared to playing them on my Turbo Duo. Once in a while, there's a really short oddity in the sound--just a little blurp--but I'd still call it a 99% effective solution. Coincidentally, I recently put together a guide on emulating these games on the Wii. If there's enough interest, maybe I'll put it up on its own thread so people can more easily find it.

Enjoy!

Re: Thoughts/reviews on Wii emulators?
My experiences from the ones I've used:
ColEm: could not get to work correctly
FCE Ultra GX: pretty much universal compatibility with everything I've thrown at it; the only thing that hasn't worked is Turrican
GenesisPlus: Universal compatibility with all Master System, Game Gear, SG-1000, Genesis, and Sega CD games
SNES9X GX: two or three games wouldn't work, the rest worked flawlessly
VectrexWii: crashes at rom selection screen; data error or some similar
Wii2600: crashes at rom selection screen; "no roms found!"
Wii64: limited compatibility; only about half of the games I tried worked, and even then most had graphical/sound/framerate problems
Wii7800: works perfectly, wish it supported 2600 roms
WiiMednafen: seemingly universal compatibility with Game Boy series, Master System/Game Gear, Genesis, Lynx, NES, Virtual Boy, Neo Geo Pocket/Color, Wonderswan, and the entire NEC console line (TG16, PCE, all TGCD variants, SuperGrafx, and PC FX)
WiiSX: I could copy/paste the Wii64 entry down here; basically the same, but with slightly better compatibility
YabauseWii: crashes at startup
Visual Boy Advance GX: universal compatibility with the entire Game Boy line
GxGeo: crashes after telling you that it can't find any roms

Re: Thoughts/reviews on Wii emulators?
I can't recommend enough the Mayflash Controller Adapter to use original NES & SNES controllers.
I have two of them and they have worked flawlessly for me.
They work for any game/emulator that uses the Classic Controller.
