WTF? Metal Gear Solid 5 is a current gen game!

That article from Joystick is wrong. Metal gear solid's official facebook page confirmed this morning that some are confused and confirmed it's ONE GAME called "MGS5: The Phantom Pain." The first bit of the game is called ground zeros and the the game picks up 9 years later as The Phanton pain. Just like SNAKE EATER DID. The virtuous mission than you go back and it's operation Snake Eater for the rest of the game. This has also been confirmed by Kojima via twitter. I take his word over Konami... and it's very common for mgs games to be broken up like this. The people who are confused must not be fans of the series.

This is what I assumed. The guy from Konami saying they're separate games must've been confused or misquoted or something.

I can dig it. But I refuse to be surprised. Metal Gear Solid by definition defies all laws of logic and thus I wouldn't be surprised if metal gear solid 6 was a wii ware title made in the nes style.

To me, that doesn't sound definitive one way or the other that this is just one game.

What do you think makes more sense: both Ground Zeroes and TPP being two parts of the same game, or two near identical looking games in the same series coming out of the same consoles in close proximity to one another?

This whole situation is confusing me too. I'm just glad it'll be on PS3 as then I won't have to rush out and spend $500 or so just to play it.

Honestly? I think it is exactly as you say and Ground Zeroes will play out like the Snake portion in the front of MGS2 and TPP will be like the rest of the game with Raiden. I still think that 1.) we don't know for sure, based on ^ that statement and 2.) it's weird to "name" two parts of the same game, if they aren't going to be separate.
