I was unaware you could play the Xbox version offline, I've dumped pretty much all of my PSO time into the Gamecube version. Does the xbox version also offer offline co-op?

Yes, you can play offline, alone OR "spit-screen" co-op (I use co-op to store some extra items across a few saves)...

... however, you need to have an old Xbox live account, or a patched game (the patch IS out there).
My Xbox had an old Xbox live account, so I've never had to worry. You can even copy the account to a memory card to move it to different systems (although, your PSO game save doesn't offer that convenience).

Also, Noise, do you know if the v2 version of PSO on the DC has "redbox" items? I've only played the v1 game on the DC, and that one did not have redbox items, the strongest weapons in the game are just in their normal colored boxes.

I have an addiction to seeing a redbox drop off of an enemy. To sort of troll myself, I make my characters have an overt amount of red on them, so that when I think I see a redbox, half the time it was just my characters hair or something.

Do you mean the red-lettered items? In v2 there're definitely items that are lettered with a kind of flashing orange/red that are generally a bit stronger than the yellow-lettered ones.

The ones I am talking about have all cap lettering, which is in gold, but the actual item box that drops is red, instead of being its usual orange or blue.

Some of the first weapons you would see that I am pretty sure are in the DC version are DB's Saber, Varista, and Club of Laconium.

How weird though, there are no items I've seen in the GC version that have any other colored lettering than gold. There is lower case gold, which is usually the high end red-colored weapons that have a high-level affect, and upper case, which are the unique rare items, like the ones I mentioned above.

I always figured the games would be pretty similar, but now you've got me curious. If its not too much trouble, could you find out the name of one of the yellow letter and orange/red letter weapons? I want to compare them to their GC counterparts.

Sorry, I probably wasn't that clear.

Indeed, you DO need an old Xbox Live account to even play...
However, the Xbox live account can't be active, as the accounts on an original Xbox are all expired and no new ones can be created (AFAIK). The servers for oXbox are long since terminated.

You just need to have an old one to log in within the game to play offline (online is obviously out of the question either way).
No internet connection or setup is necessary, the game just needs to know that an account is there on the hard drive.

Like I said, I was lucky to find an Xbox with an old account still saved to the system.

I'm sure there is a way to ftp an old account onto any oXbox, but I never looked into it, as I don't know where the save is kept on the HDD.

It's honestly been years since I last even looked at my PSO character, but just working from memory, I believe the Samba de Amigo maracas were one of the red-lettered ones. Maybe the flaming q-tip and extendable short staff, also. (I can't remember names.)

If noise doesn't get you your answers first, I can poke around on my character a bit tomorrow or something to get you some definitive weapon names. I think that it was mostly just kitsch, higher tier weapons that were added in ver 2 that got the new lettering treatment.

It was actually a lot easier to hook up my US DC than I was anticipating. I'm also shocked that I put 200 hour into this character. Shocked! --Well, not that shocked.

Anyway, here's a rundown of what I have with flashing orange letters: Red Saber, Red Dagger, Imperial Pick, Red Handgun, CHU CHU, Weapons Bronze Badge, Weapons Silver Badge, Twin Blaze, Samba Maracas, Sealed J-Sword, Monkey King Bar, Meteor Cudgel, Ancient Saber, Lavis Blade, Chu Chu Fever, and Guard Wave.

I also have two solid-red-lettered weapons: I\ Needle and Masamune, but I have very strong suspicions that those two are hacked weapons.

I just bought last blade 2, nba showtime, and nfl blitz 2000. Last blade 2 is getting up there in price but you should really get yourself a copy. I think you will love it. And I don't know if you were into blitz or nba jam type games but blitz 2000 and nba showtime is really fun to play with. Check them out.

What's the difference between the offline modes of Phantasy Star Online versions 1 and 2 (DC)? I own 1, haven't picked up 2 yet.
