I don't think the differences between GB and GBC are as drastic as NES/SNES. GB and GBC are both an 8-bit proc.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Well you cheated by lumping the GB and GBC together. That's like saying

I think it's fair to compare/contrast TG16 and NES because they are both 8-bit procs, yes.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:Then we'll throw in the TG16, right?

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
To be honest there isn't a huuuuge difference between the GBC and GB hardware. the GB processor might as well be a z80 and isn't too far off from the zilog z80, after that all increases in hardware power were just barely enough to support the color palettes.
That said, lumping the two together annoys me, specifically because when I'm researching gameboy stuff I hate when they include gameboy color games aswell. I said, gameboy. NOT color. no amount of google-fu seems to help me there.
Anyway, more unpopular gaming opinions?
-MMORPGs are simply the worst elements of role playing games wrapped around the social element to keep people playing. MMORPGs ceased being a good social atmosphere the second they became mainstream because the pool of people to socialize with makes each person ever more insignificant, competition increases etc. You can simply go outside and get a job and get the same exact experience (and get paid for it.)
-There is a terrible trend in Japanese games that make it stateside as of late that have that awful moe/tsundere/uguu~ bologna all over the place and I find it repulsive.
-There is a disturbing lack of good point and click adventure games this past decade. The only ones you really see coming out lately are those terrible games in the Walmart PC section.
-90% of the games that are worth my time are indie, or at least small publisher, studios.
-Motion Blur is the worst effect I've ever seen in games, and games are starting to use it a lot, even in situations where it doesn't even make sense, like any game in the third person.
-Just because computer hardware is more powerful than ever doesn't mean you should be allowed to release an insufficiently optimized game to the public.
-Gamestop is the bane of my existence.
-Anti-aliasing is dumb.
I am just full of hate today.

- Everything and anything gaming is mainstream, even indie games are mainstream.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I wish this opinion wasn't unpopular! It irks me so much when people discount a game's worth because it's expensive or cheap. Discussion of value has it's place, but those kinds of discussions usually drown out discussions about the actual merits of a game itself. An enjoyable game is an enjoyable game, regardless of price, expectations, or any other external factors.Hazerd wrote:- Everything and anything gaming is mainstream, even indie games are mainstream.

I do the same thing with GB and GBC. Technically, I guess you're right. You can't play GBC games on a GB (except for select titles).BoneSnapDeez wrote:Well you cheated by lumping the GB and GBC together. Here's where I might lose you. I just thought of this one:
GB/GBC > GBA as far as game selection goes.
BOOOOOOOM!
NES/SNES > N64
What about Neo Geo Pocket and Neo Geo Pocket Color, then? You CAN play Neo Geo Pocket Color games on a Neo Geo Pocket, you just lose the color.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I have no problem with "lumping together" the two Neo Geo handhelds, as they're very niche consoles with small libraries of games. Same goes for the Wonderswan handhelds. The GB and GBC both had long lifespans and a huge number of games each.BurningDoom wrote: What about Neo Geo Pocket and Neo Geo Pocket Color, then? A couple more ~*unpopular opinions*~ I just thought of....
- The original Resident Evil and Silent Hill are slow, ugly, clunky, and not scary in the slightest. Sweet Home and Clock Tower (Super Famicom) are the best Japanese horror games of all time. That said, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is better/scarier than any Japanese game.
- The Metal Gear series is shockingly overrated. The 8-bit games are straight-up bad and the newer titles are a convoluted mess.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
When you say the 8-bit Metal Gear titles, are you referring to the MSX titles? Because I find them, and especially the second, to be among the best 8-bit titles period. I completely agree about the NES versions, though.BoneSnapDeez wrote:- The Metal Gear series is shockingly overrated. The 8-bit games are straight-up bad and the newer titles are a convoluted mess.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
And the funny thing is, people seem to only think this now, in retrospect. They didn't seem too bad when they were the only version people knew about, did they? Just an observation.TheSonicRetard wrote:I completely agree about the NES versions, though.
