How come? It's more of a thing of the past, but I've never seen any one saying that it's stupid. It's more like that them kids these days don't know what a LAN party is. And even if it's a thing of the past, there still are huge LAN parties, they just have eSports, demoscene, panels and that sort of stuff to draw people in.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

The fighting game community is shitty and elitist. The Smash Bros community is the shitties and most elitist of a genre known for having shitty and elitist communities.

There's no such thing as a "competitive" game. There are tournament-worthy games and games that aren't. Smash Bros Melee and Brawl are tournament worthy with some item or stage limitations as well as the banning of a couple game-breaking glitches.

Super Smash Bros (N64) is not tournament worthy because practically all characters have OHKO on every other character. It's what you would call "broken".
While my opinion is "dumb as fuck" I would say that multiple game breaking glitches would be considered broken over a game where every character has a one hit ko, since that would be more of an even battleground. Then again I stopped going to tournaments in 06, and directly hosting them in 07 (average attendance was about 150 across all games).

More and more games, console or pc based, are losing their offline multiplayer/lan component. When I bring that up with people they are dismissive that there are people who still play LAN over online. Even worse is when I try to orchestrate a lanparty most people ask if they can just login from their house.

Well, its rather obvious why less games have LAN. Don't see what's so strange about other gamers not caring.

Why is it obvious? I can take a guess and say you are going to say that everyone has an HSD connection. Studies have stated that 94% of the USA have a HSD connection of atleast 1mbps (most have in the 5mbps range), the penetration in other companies is much lower. This number is artificially inflated in that it counts HSD over Cell*. If you break it down to actual hardline connections the penetration rate goes down to the mid 60s.

Now I know why they are doing it, they view that the backbone is strong enough for enough customers, but it still pisses me off.

*Numbers are based on a January 2013 study by Level3.

Both LAN and 2-4 player shared/splitscreen offline multiplayer (in console games) used to be a big social gaming thing during the late 1990s, I'm sure many people miss it.

I miss LAN parties. Sitting at (sometimes makeshift) tables with other people at someone's place, having people exclaim in person from across the room, and playing until dawn is so much better than sitting alone and talking through a headset.

I agree about the LAN parties. I always thought they were a blast. Heck, my bachelor party was basically a giant multi-day LAN party. I think there are a lot of people who agree because otherwise you wouldn't see companies like Intel hosting these LAN events and getting really good attendance.

I'd like to add another point.
-I hate DLC. Give me the game and then give me an extensive expansion pack (if the game warrants it, but most don't). But do not nickel and dime me with DLC. I hate that EVERY game now has some kind of DLC.

jinx wrote:Although I partially agree with this, it REALLY depends. To use an Anime as an example. I can NOT watch the dubbed Neon Genesis Evangelion. I can't stand Shinji, I can't stand the acting, I can't stand it. This will always be a subbed choice for me.
I prefer dubs in non-live action media. I watched part of a Mirai Sentai Timeranger fandub, and I couldn't stand it after a minute. The exception is for stuff like Godzilla where I'm too busy laughing at it to hate it.

Here's some more:
-Assault is my favorite Star Fox game, and the on-foot sections were my favorite part
-SoulCalibur V sucks
-I hate replaying games
-The word nostalgia should be banned because it's so overused

Most DLC is terrible, but I don't have a problem with the idea. I'll probably be getting the Valkyria Chronicles II mission pack after I'm done with that game.
