I also don't care for Starcraft. I always preferred Warcraft II and Total Annihilation.

I enjoyed playing in Smash tournaments when they are all weapons, minus health recovery and lipstick, and at a normal level of deployment on a nonmoving random stage. Sadly when Melee came out everyone went to no items on Final Destination. In the original there were some people who played that way but you could always find a decent tournament that played on random stages (in my area atleast).

As for unpopular gaming opinions - I dislike most all 3d traditional JRPGs. Actually all but Chrono Cross have lost my interest very quickly.

Also I love LAN gaming, which according to mainstream gaming, is: foreign, weird, and stupid.

It's the sort of thing that happens when you try and shoehorn a party game into a competitive one.

That and top 32s consisting of nothing but Metaknight mirror matches (Brawl).

I like fighting games a lot and Smash Bros Melee is my all time favorite (haven't played Brawl). I love Smash Bros because it's the most creative fighting game out there with all the crazy stuff you can do and to really excel at it, you have to be able to think fast. That unpredictability makes the game infinitely more interesting to me than Street Fighter or Virtua Fighter (though I like those games too). Saying it "doesn't count" seems kind of stupid IMO. I do agree, though, that it's equally stupid to include Smash Bros in a fighting game tournament but then limit what the players can do. If both players are really good and know the game well, then the entire point is to see who can outwit the other player, like a wizards duel or something.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

Sorry, but all these posts around Smash Bros are dumb as fuck.

The fighting game community is shitty and elitist. The Smash Bros community is the shitties and most elitist of a genre known for having shitty and elitist communities.

There's no such thing as a "competitive" game. There are tournament-worthy games and games that aren't. Smash Bros Melee and Brawl are tournament worthy with some item or stage limitations as well as the banning of a couple game-breaking glitches.

Super Smash Bros (N64) is not tournament worthy because practically all characters have OHKO on every other character. It's what you would call "broken".

  • If videogames are going to grow up, we have to get over the idea that they always need to be fun.
  • When taken on the whole, the mainstream videogame world is full of sexism, racism, heterosexism, anti-intellectualism, and general stupidity, and it needs to change by adding more options rather than by taking anything away.
  • Gamers need to accept that violent videogames make people more aggressive, and non-gamers need to accept that they don't make us aggressive enough to warrant any major concern, and certainly not enough to censor them.
  • There aren't enough games with anime styled graphics.
  • Indie games are every bit as legitimate as big budget releases.
  • Despite a storefront that makes it look like you are actually buying games, Steam is just a rental service without clearly defined rental times.
  • Piracy has helped the gaming industry... and you still shouldn't do it.
  • Your favorite game sucks.

Now I see why you ignored my message.

Hurts to see all the Dreamcast hate in this thread, but I guess that's the point. :P

Hmm I don't recall ignoring you, I know we had a convo going. I like all sega except for DC

My issue with this is that "fun" is pretty broadly defined. Who's to say I'm not having "fun" if I'm, say, watching a movie that's a huge emotional roller coaster?

Didn't really like the DS versions of Ivy the Kiwi? and Bangai-o
Thought they were minimalistic representations of their console counterparts.

How so?

I didn't know fans of games were so segmented by genre. The idea of a group of JRPG fans vs. fans of fighting games is funny to think about.
