Burning DC games
Re: Burning DC games
I tend to buy pretty cheap discs and the only time I get a coaster is when I have a bad image to start with.
Re: Burning DC games
As I don't have a region mod, I've been playing a few Japanese games on burned discs for the past couple of weeks. I've been using cheap discs I picked up when I worked for Best Buy (Dynex and Memorex). The other day, my systems suddenly stopped reading CD-Rs. Official GD-ROMs work fine, but it refuses to read any of burned games I've been playing.
Apparently I'm not alone in this:
That's exactly what mine is doing.
I'm going to pick up some TDK or Sony CD-Rs and give it one more go. A lot of users say that using higher quality CD-Rs fixed their problem. I'll also try fiddling around with the laser calibration a bit more, but I don't want to screw it up completely. Pretty bummed out about this.

Using a particular media in a drive can't physically damage the drive. Chances are the drive is just aging and it happened to occur while you were using burned media.
These rumors go around all the time, that using any CDR or cheap CDR media will somehow damage your laser. If the media is hard to read it can cause the laser to work a little harder, but it can't actually cause any more harm than normal wear and tear.
