I used to think the same thing until...

I can back this. I drive an automatic every day that gets great gas mileage, and I'm quite happy about it. I live about three miles from work, and the Interstate takes me directly there, but I-75/85 happens to be the primary route for hundreds of other people doing the same thing, so while I should be able to get to work in five minutes without traffic, on a good day, it takes me 15 at least(and I consider myself extremely lucky for that!). I constantly have to speed up, slow down, stop, speed up again, etc. With a clutch, it would be maddening.

One of my kindergarten students said "fucking bitches" several times during lunch. When I called her on it she claimed ignorance - "I didn't know those were bad words!"

Reminds me of the classic George Costanza scene... "Was that wrong? Should I not have done that?..."

I live in a town with a whopping 2,000 people in it. So needless to say, driving a stick where i live is fun as hell. When it is "Rush" hour here, it takes 15 minutes to cross the whole town instead of 10! You would be a fool to own a corvette or something similar here without a stick. Oh yeah and this truck is the reason I have owned nothing but chevrolets. My fathers old three on the tree chevy work truck. 350K on the factory transmission and motor. 1 alternator and water pump, and tons of gas and oil are the only costs that this vehicle have required. I still use it to pull cows to this day. Took this about 5 months ago. Its only features are an AM FM radio that doesn't work. And Rubber Floor mats. No carpet! I guess the dump bed on the bed could be considered a option or feature. Also note that even though it is badged "custom deluxe" those are two words I would never use to describe it.

Yeah, I drive back and fourth to New Orleans from Houston in a 01 Pt Cruiser that is stick, and going through Baton Rouge traffic on the Mississippi river bridge is terrifying. I hate it when you get on a slope and someone rides your ass. In the back woods of the northshore, the stick shift was awesome. City driving? Not so much.

I drive everyday, in all sorts of traffic through downtown Denver, with the shortest first gear of any car I've been in.

Get stronger left legs. It's manual or bust for this guy. Even in crazy traffic.

None of you guys should bitch about traffic until you drive a stick in a big commercial truck.

I'm teasing of course, but its definitely harder on your knee.

We have one truck with an extremely tough clutch. Spend some time in traffic with that sucker and your knee will feel like its gonna burst. To be fair though that truck is an anomaly.

I still wouldn't trade it for automatic. Auto is nice and convenient for obvious reasons, but as stated its just not as fun, and when you're in a truck hauling heavy freight the power just isn't comparable.

All you talking about stick...

Real men drive slap-shifts. That's where its at! The advantages of a standard without having to step on the clutch in traffic!

Plus, no matter how bad you are at stick, you can still look like a bad ass with a slap-shift.

How does dust behave in ships in orbit and the space station? Does it still settle in grooves on equipment or is it a big problem with it just floating around all the time?
