Yea. I've read a few articles about some Japanese preferring English dubs.

Personally, I just want the original audio. If it was originally in German, I'll take German. English? Then English it is? Japanese? Then I want Japanese.

I'm on the fence as to re-doing the voice acting. There were points were Yuna and Tidus got pretty bad, but at the same time, changing the voice could really wreck some of the characters. I just can't imagine Wakka not sounding like... well, like Wakka.

I do recall the international ps2 release of X having dub/original voicing options, so if this is indeed the international release, it should have that option.

I am fine with games being dubbed though. I am fine with a game if it only has Japanese language (Like Agarest War), but if there is English option, I always go for it, even if its bad. I like the luxury of being able to hear what is being spoken, so that I can oogle over the pretty graphics.

Then again, I usually don't find dubbing as bad as some do.

This is precisely how I feel.

A re-dub might be interesting, but either way the game is best with the original VAs. When I played it in Japanese for the first time it seriously felt like a different game. I don't know what the hell they were thinking making some of the characters sound so retarded in the English dub. Tidus and Wakka in particular come off as characters with personalities that were changed in the dub for the worse (although the laughing scene is still pretty painful to endure either way).

Yeah I don't get this for games, I do for movies, there it makes sense to me. With voice acting for games, all of the acting and inflection and everything comes from voice. With movies, acting is coming from body language and more from the actor and if you have dub there is a disconnect. I just don't see that for games.

I don't play too many video games with voice acting, but I prefer English dubs in anime as long as the dub is good. If it sucks, I switch to Japanese with subs. Those Hollywood dubs on Miyazaki films are the worst thing ever.

I've found for games that there are certain character archetypes which are popular in Japan that don't really exist over here. The one that immediately jumps to mind is the cold, emotionless girl, as evidenced by Lymle in Star Ocean 4. I'm more sold on her character in the original Japanese than I am with the US dub.

Doesn't that just come down to direction and/or the actor that played her in the US?

It does, but they've been doing it much longer and are much better at it.

So you're saying that voice actors in Japan have been like that archetype longer and are better at portraying a cold, emotionless character? Ok, this makes sense to me.

It is a very common character type in anime. JRPGs tend to use a lot of the same archetypes as anime.
