Re: Post Computer Tower Pics!
Yeah, that sounds about right. It was probably late 2010. I know the i7's were only out for a few months tops when I built it. The video card was probably at least a year old already. I've said it before, but I pretty much only got THAT card because it came with a free copy of CoD World at War. I wanted a newer game to test out the system with, and free is free!Hazerd wrote:Very nice, going to guess you built it in 2009-2010 based on the video card and the i know for sure the CPU is 2010.
I'm currently wasting the TB drive. It's half to two-thirds full of digital copies of games but mostly back ups I've made of my own personal games and DVD movies (the rarer more expensive stuff). I keep thinking, if I get rid of all the crap I don't need, I could easily fit the rest of it on one of the 750GB drives (I only have about a third of it used). I could then remove the TB drive and put it in an external enclosure. I could rip all my Wii games to it and use it for that, or I could use it for my DVR, or just an external drive for the PC for temp space when editing or bulk dump for pics and videos and audio files.I have 2 500GB Internal drives and a 1TB External, and im still worried about running out of room![]()
See, my CPU is stock speed with no plans to overclock. I don't even remember why I got the V8 in the first place.Yes the V8 cooler is overkill imo, should of went for something like:
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835103099
My CPU isnt unlocked and the farthest i can take it is 3.8ghz, so stock cooling is good enough for me, now if i had a i5 2500k instead of a i5 2400, i would take that beast to 4.5ghz and would get the Hyper 212 or:
CORSAIR Hydro Series H80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835181016
What I really like about it though, if you look at the pics, it lines up perfectly with the rear case fan. In the middle of the V8 is a huge fan, blowing in line with the case's air flow. So since it lines up, and the entire front of the tower is vented, it has AMAZING air flow. But it's really not needed, I run the same temps as the stock HSF, so it was kind of a waste of money.
I think my thoughts were that if I'm gaming on the PC, the entire case should stay cooler. But I haven't done much PC gaming in the last few years. I think I installed Sim City 4 before I got the SSD, and I don't remember checking temps. On the rare occasion I do video encoding, the CPU doesn't seemed to be taxed enough for the temp to rise much.
If the fan on the V8 ever dies, I'll probably just put the stock HSF back in and call it a day. I could replace the fan and try to sell the V8, I still have the box and everything for it. And it comes with a bunch of different mounting brackets so it fits like 10 different CPU sockets lol.

Good to see more Valve mugs! I love my TF2 Engineer one, even though I rarely play TF2 anymore.

Also, Linux can get viruses, but just not nearly as frequently as Windows machines can. Still, apart from gaming, there's very little that Windows can do that Linux can't, and with Wine, there's virtually nothing. What do you mean by "editing"?

Ofcourse linux can get viruses, but with so many distros, its such a crabshoot for it to happen. Heck even OS/2 had atleast one virus.
Editing meaning Video Editing. Nowadays it is almost completely personal work, mostly 720 some 1080. But I was a DIT/Media Manager for a while and the Red Rocket does not work on Linux. Well it technically does but it is not 100%, which sadly in that industry means it is not worth messing with.
Edit:
I take that back apparently the Rocket is fully supported in Linux now.
Now I am theorizing a new build for Media Manager work...damn it.
