The GBA screen is far, far, far harder to see than the GBC by a wide margin.
Alright, so I'm not the only one. I thought I was just going blind (Well, I am, but that's not the point).
Going from the PSP/gPSP back to the GBA was rough. I found myself holding the GBA in awkward ways trying to get enough light to shine on the screen, without causing too much of a glare. I eventually gave up and dealt with the emulation... (Never owned an SP)

And then I have some other Win 95 games that won't even install in Win 98...
I've never had compatibility mode work for me, tbh. I tried installing a game at least six or seven times in different modes (XP, 95, 98, 2000, etc). I never got the dang thing to work.

It was made even worse by the fact that tilting the console often mvoed it out of the direct light, making it impossible to see again
Can't play it on an SP or Game Boy Player. I've tried!
I'm not familiar with the game. Why can't you play it on an SP? Is it because the game is meant to have a non-vertical screen? What about an SP+ ?

The game uses a tilt sensor to control kirby. If the cartridge is in an SP, it's upside down, which inverts the controls - you have to tilt down to move up, left for right etc. Makes it very difficult to play, so you have to use a Game Boy Colour or original GBA. It'd work in the Game Boy Player too, but you'd have to pick up the whole gamecube and swing that about instead.

I gotta get an XP gaming setup sometime...
I've had some luck with compatibility modes. Diablo I works well on my Windows Vista PC using Win 95 compatibility. It actually runs better than Diablo II (Battle Chest version) on Windows 7.
What's most hilarious to me are those Japanese anime/Doujin Soft/eroge games that say "Compatible with Win 95/98/2000/XP/Vista/7" on the label... Sure it's technically true if you're willing to mess with the settings. I think the ones I own function on Windows 7 in Win 98 compatibility mode.
