Yeah, I got it. However, the NPC invader there (Mildred? Can't remember right now.) backstabbed me while I was trying to answer my cell phone... important calls and Dark Souls just don't go together.

EDIT: Just to add: I feel compelled to finish the game, and I plan on doing it, but I don't see this being a game that I want to come back too. Not exactly sure why, but I have that feeling. I've loved what I've played of Demon's Souls SOOOO much more. Game world design a think is where it differs. I prefer the hub in Demon's to the world of Dark's.

I'm the exact opposite. I love how all the areas are connected and there are virtually no loading times aside from the initial boot up.

Also, Dark Souls' bonfire's are spread out more evenly across levels. Having to kill a boss in Demon's Souls to just get a check point sucked. And wading through the excessive amount of enemies again was really tedious. (...freakin' swamp level).

I just like how I felt a tiny bit more direction in Demon's Souls. There wasn't any issue with going the wrong direction.

I think its just that I haven't played enough, but lack of direction is a bit of an issue. No directions are really given. Its like showing up in Africa, with someone telling you to go to a town. Except, nobody gives directions to said town...

(This is supposed to be fixed in Dark Souls II, but we shall see.)

This has been From Software's RPG game design from day one. It's one of the staples that makes their games unique. You have to figure everything out yourself and memorize the ins and outs of the world. I remember when I was a kid I made my own map while playing King's Field, like you would have to do if you were really in the position of the adventurer.

That said I still thought the Nexus was really cool and suited the game perfectly. Kind of gave it an old school "pick the next level/boss" feel, while still maintaining the heavy emphasis on exploration. It was basically like Mega Man really, you even got the boss' power or weapon after defeating it.

Why did you have to bring that up? I've tried to block that place from my memory.

I don't know... I feel like dropping Dark Souls, but I feel like I shouldn't at the same time.

I'm not having that much fun at all... but I can't help but want to push on and do more. I'd even go as far as to say this is self torture.

EDIT:Is the Drake Sword really that big of a deal? I haven't picked it up in any of my attempts at the game, and I've heard people swear up and down by it. I thought I'd go without, but I'm not totally sure now.

I'm also questioning who the hell figured that one out. I mean, who though they would shoot the dragon tail with 150 arrows for fun?

The Drake Sword is super good at the early stages of the game and works well through the second bell. It drops off hard at Sen's Fortress though, and it's definitely not an endgame weapon.

Well, I just hit Sen's Fortress, so I guess it wouldn't matter either way.

I figure I'll make the Furysword when I get to the giant blacksmith, then do up a lightning Uchigatana. At least, that is what was suggested to me.

Not a bad strategy at all. Regular +15 weapons do get better stat scaling in the endgame making them stronger then elemental ones, but if you're not expecting to reach level ~120ish then it's kind of inconsequential.
