Shinobi III is excellent. I really like all three of the genesis games (something I definitely can't say about the master system ones) but it could be easier to think of them in terms of their Japanese titles: Revenge = The Super Shinobi, Shadow Dancer = Shadow Dancer, Shinobi III = The Super Shinobi II.
I just can not get past the audio quality on the Sega Smash Pack. Especially since I have most of the games that are included, in their original format; with HD-gen audio. Really good selection of games on it though.
Have you had any time to play Virtua Cop on the Saturn, noise? I've heard that the DC version is based on the Windows port, which is supposedly inferior to the Saturn port, but I'm not really sure of the details. Was wondering if you noticed much difference.
noiseredux vs. Dreamcast ....version 3.0?

Re: noiseredux vs. Sega
I've only played the first game on Saturn actually but I'll try to make an effort to pop 2 in soon. I guess it would make some sense to port the Windows version to DC rather than the Saturn version. I mean DC has WinCE going for it and all. To be honest I wasn't even aware of a Win version of VC2 until you're post though, so had never figured the Sat version would be much diff from DC.pierrot wrote: Have you had any time to play Virtua Cop on the Saturn, noise? Trying to recall this, so bear with me:
Virtua Cop 2 DC-J > Virtua Cop 2 SAT J > Virtua Cop 2 Smashpack DC-US
Virtua Cop 2 DC-J > Virtua Cop 2 SAT J > Virtua Cop 2 Smashpack DC-US
Re: noiseredux vs. Sega
Pretty much exactly what I've heard for years but always took it with a grain of salt. I may just find out find out for myself sooner than later. Is it that the Japanese version is not Windows CE based? I mean, Dreamast can handle a model 2 game. Dynamite Cop turned out very good on the platform.Virtua Cop 2 DC-J > Virtua Cop 2 SAT J > Virtua Cop 2 Smashpack DC-US

EDIT:
I don't think I've told you how much I've enjoyed reading your blog. I guess I enjoyed reading it so much that I forgot to. Still catching up.

Re: noiseredux vs. Sega
Ooohh!
I've been playing this recently, only it's the Xbox version for me. I find it way too convenient to throw this on the hard drive and play it that way. I can't go back now, and I really don't want to abuse my aging DC anymore than I have to.
I think I'm a level 27 FOmarl, though you'd think I was a RAmarl for how often I use guns.
Haven't played in a week or so, but will probably pick it up again tonight.
I don't think I'll ever play online though (as if I could on Xbox anyways).
But that's one thing I really I like about PSO; Sega gave you the option.
Curses to Square-Enix for not giving FFXI the same courtesy (sorry if I've ever mentioned this before, I will NEVER get over that).
Also spent some time with it on Gamecube, but still prefer the convenience of Xbox. One day I hope to play it with a group (Split Screen) on a large TV.
Also, I still love that "RPG Critic" review of the DC original on Workingdesign's old site (you can find it in the RPG Critic section under the Dreamcast reviews here:

...just another lost soul...

Re: noiseredux vs. Sega
I loved reading your blog post Noise.
I will say though that I don't find PSO to be an MMO, like FFXI. To me it feels more like Diablo, Dark Souls, or Monster Hunter, just good ol' dungeon crawling with up to 3 other buddies. Whereas FFXI is not playable offline... even if it was playable offline, it would not be playable. It is a really hard game, and you can't even kill a random goblin on your own.
I was unaware you could play the Xbox version offline, I've dumped pretty much all of my PSO time into the Gamecube version. Does the xbox version also offer offline co-op?
