I am at the 16th chapter of Fire Emblem Awakening. I have unlocked all of the children but havent actually done all the missions to recruit them yet. Really enjoying this game so far, probably the best Fire Emblem yet.

Final Fantasy is *finished*. This wasn't not just any RPG finished, it's something I've been meaning to do for over 20 years. Let me regale you with my FF story.

As most know, Nintendo Power used to give out Strategy Guides when they were bi-monthly in 1990. SMB3, Ninja Gaiden, 4 Player Extra, but one really grabbed me. Final Fantasy. Another new entry into that genre many Western players may not have been aware with -- the RPG. Sure, I played Dragon Warrior (and had beaten it around the start of the summer in 1990) but I needed new RPG blood. So I got my FF guide from NP, started going through it, realizing this system was a lot deeper, the graphics better, the story even more larger and immersive. So the first time I rented it from the local Blockbuster Video (dealing with an "invalid" membership card issue for some odd reason before that), and I wasn't really that impressed with it. I felt it really didn't hold your hand quite as well as Dragon Warrior did. Text in battle was sparse, commands were a bit difficult to grasp, and I was getting killed more often than not. That was my first weekend with the game.

Moving ahead to early 1994, again Nintendo comes through with what I liked to call the "fire sale", letting NP readers know they were selling select Nintendo-published games for rock botton 1994 prices. Namely, SNES titles for $30 and NES games for $20. So I snapped up Battle Clash for my less-used Super Scope, Barker Bill's Trick Shooting for my less used Zapper, and of course Final Fantasy was there. The instruction manual was the longest I've ever seen. Along the course of playing, I found out a Thief was better for me than a Black Belt, and grinding was absolutely necessary to move ahead. I also didn't like the wasted attacks that I had to endure many times in battle.

Ahead to 2005 where I try to make another noble effort to get anywhere in this game. Armed with a walkthrough from a FF site on the old ClassicGaming.com, I ground and ground till I couldn't ground no more, and I got to the Flying Fortress. Then I put it aside again.

This year, I find FF: DoS 1 & 2 for a good price on eBay, get it, play it, and about a month and a half later, I am happy to report a back-burner game that couldn't be any more backlogged has been beaten. This can finally be layed to rest. My party was at Level 60 when the epic battle with Chaos began, I had it in the Game Boy Player, the mono sound does not do such a classic justice, as well as those crazy NEW attacks Chaos throws at you. Haste, Sabre, NulAll, and Healaga did it for me. Total time spent -- 13 hours, 28 minutes.

Now on to FFV, another game I haven't played in years.

FE7 is one of my all-time favorites for the GBA. I've finished that game over 8 times or so.
The thing is I couldn't get into the console FE's. Is Awakening gonna be my new addiction? (I'd really hope so !)

Breath of Fire is coming along well. I just managed to get Nina into my party after saving her father, so now I am exploring the mystery of the stone guardian and how the dark dragons cut off a river.

Nice.

Do you have the E.Key yet? It can be used as a weapon - took me awhile to figure that out.

Yes, I believe Nina can use it in battle instead of her weak ass attacks.

(hope I'm not wrong I haven't played the game in like 2 years)

I've got ~27 slots for Kaim, Seth, and Sarah in Lost Odyssey now. Doing some side quests and stuff at the 4th disc and starting to feel invincible. A nice break after how grueling the game was at times, though it sounds like some of the later optional dungeons and stuff will still be pretty challenging.
